Excellent Drama

I watched this wonderful ensemble drama on Saturday, 16th July 2016 on BBC2. According to the Radio Times, it was postponed from 30th April 2016. It's a bit of a shame we didn't get to see it when the World Snooker Championships were actually taking place, presumably the reason it was bumped from the TV schedule in the first place.

The 1980's was indeed snooker's heyday. All the players at that time were household names and it seemed only right and proper that, as a Sheffield resident, I should pay a visit to the World Championships at The Crucible. I remember seeing a match involving Tony Knowles who turned out to be a right tool when we asked for his autograph afterwards!

Alex, Steve, Dennis, Cliff, Terry, Bill and Willie were the Kings of the game and we will never see their like again. The superb cast of The Rack Pack did them justice and it was a pleasure to watch. It was both funny and moving at the same time. I also thought Nichola Burley did a great job as Lynn Higgins and Kevin Bishop as Barry Hearn was also good value.

My interest in snooker has waned over the years and I'd be hard pushed to name any of the new batch of players now. But this drama reminded me of snooker's golden years and it was a pleasure to take a trip down memory lane and a joy to watch.
