A satire of misogyny

This movie is disguised as a comedy but it's really an allegory for how women are treated by men in society. She's trying to navigate a male-dominated world while getting persecuted for her sexuality at every turn. The running gag of the movie is that people mistake Meghan for a whore: this is how women are often labeled for expressing themselves sexually. However, her fiancee had left her for another woman, which is pointing out the hypocrisy.

Another significant theme in the movie is that men are only willing to help Meghan if she offers up sexually-motivated favors. The cab driver, the Jewish guy, the nerdy kid. Once again, this exposes the double standard imposed by men, because they are ones who have boxed her into the "whore" role in the first place.

It's the plight of many modern women: Meghan is just trying to establish herself as an independent career women, yet she's constantly being judged and objectified. A single promiscuous act and she's forced to run the gauntlet.

It's funny because I bet a lot of people think this movie IS misogynistic, but it's actually one big tongue-in-cheek critique. It's almost a work of feminism.

Love your take on this. Really interesting and I totally agree.

Its also a satire of baldness and humiliation of men with hair loss at any age. Notice that every guy except for the one nighters are all balding? Pure misandry as its finest.

Finally! Great review! I thought the same thing! Everything you said is exactly the point of the film and many people got it wrong. It was fun with a great message behind it!

On the surface, maybe you're on to something. Then again, she's parading around town, odd hours of the night (morning, wearing a tiny dress. Oh, gee. What would I think if I happened upon a woman wearing a tiny dress in the early morning, running around on the streets?

The real problem is the sexual imbalance, that is more of a burden to men than women. Guys want to get laid all the time...unless they're the lucky few that gets laid all the time.

Without the eye candy factor, this movie loses 90% of the male audience between 18 and 60. My only problem with this movie was the gratuitous use of the 'B' word. That REALLY turned me off. I can't believe it's acceptable to even use the word, especially with such liberty.

When we're thinking about our own brain, would that be a mental paradox??
