I thought he was really funny. I usually don't watch much of these kind of awards shows because I think they're too full of themselves. But when comedians like Seth MacFarlane and Ricky Gervais (Golden Globes) host, and poke a few holes in the pompous bluster, I enjoy it more.
The perfect example: Seth introducing Meryl Streep as someone who needs no introduction...and then not introducing her. Brilliant!
Seth was awesome. The only people who don't seem to think so are people who need to learn how to have a laugh and not take everything so seriously. And also realise that while the Oscar host has some input in the writing, they get given most of the material. If you have a problem with the jokes then blame the writers. I'd like to see most the people complaining do better when being watched by a billion people.
I watched the Oscars, Seth did not say "...who shattered his skull with a bullet" Adding stuff to make Seth look worse there aren't you?
What he did say after "JWB..." was "...“Really? 150 years later and it’s still too soon?" Which I have to agree with personally. Seriously, get over it and have a laugh.
Comedy Gold! They say Oswald was not too bright, but he was able to explore JFK's brain like nobody else. Bwahahahaha!

Here is the actual quote referencing how Daniel Day Lewis is a method actor:
" I would argue however that the actor who who really got inside Lincoln's head was John Wilkes Booth."
Comedy is either visual (slapstick), or mental (drawing an image from spoken word). With this "joke" we are asked to visualize. As my brain is a normal functioning unit it imagines...a bullet shattering the skull of a dead president which is exactly what happened. How else can one interpret the "joke"?
Aside from this line that went over with a thud...most the rest of his attempts were obvious and not playful but rather obviously with vindictive spirit.
To top it all off...his timing was off.
The guy is talented, but last night was not his domain.

You are taking it far too seriously. The joke isn't asking you to imagine, in detail, what actually happens when someone is shot in the head, it's just a play on words ffs.
You're one of those people that just can't take a joke aren't you? Don't see the funny side of anything and thinks everyone is always being 100% serious. How dull that must be for you.
You're a friggen idiot. The joke was worse than bad. That you care to think it remotely funny defines you as an idiot. Wasn't funny. I have no problem laughing at humor.
I haven't actually given my opinion on the joke at all or said how funny I think it was or wasn't. I was simply pointing out that some people need to stop taking everything so seriously.
The Oscars have had off-color jokes for years now. Even the venerable Billy Crystal quipped last year: "After I saw The Help I just wanted to hug the first black woman I saw, which from Beverly Hills is about a 45 minute drive."
The producers are trying to appeal to younger viewers with riskier jokes that are always going to shock a few people.
If they made it "classy" like it used to be, the ratings could take a nose dive. Remember those "AFI Salutes" shows, which were one of the classiest award shows on TV. Now you have a hard time finding it on TV.
