'We saw your boobs!'

That song was so insulting, so sexist and so demeaning to the actresses who were present. It brought serious actresses down to the level of being adolescent jerk-off fantasies. It's hard enough getting roles in Hollywood without having to put out for directors and producers or being expected to do a gratuitious nude or lesbian scene. The actresses who are successful enough to be at the Oscars should be respected as peers for the work that they do and not reduced to sex symbols in a such a juvenile fashion. It was also really inappropriate for the young kids who may have been allowed to stay up for the beginning of the show. But since the show's producers clearly don't care about offending people, I assume we'll see an equivalent song -- "We saw your dicks!" on next year's show.

The song was satire. The whole point was to call attention to just what you say - that even these distinguished Oscar-worthy actresses have had to bow to the pressures of sexism and film nude scenes. The host was trying to embarrass the entire Hollywood culture, not the specific actresses.

If you look closely, it looks like the song was filmed ahead of time, and the reactions of the actresses weren't live, but were canned clips from before the segment started.

I heard much worse on the elementary school playground as a child.

Exactly.

Yes that would appear to be the case. I mean, wouldn't Charlize Theron have been back stage getting ready to dance right after the boobs song instead of "cringing" in the audience? Her reaction didn't even look serious. I think they were in on the joke and filmed their reactions earlier.

I get the satire, I just didn't think it was funny.

Get off your high horse would you. Oh no let's not offend these people we need to kiss their feet and honor the ground they walk on! and kids might hear the word boobs for the first time! the actresses know sex sells which is why they showed their boobs in the first place, it was a satire you need to lighten up

On IMDB, that's all people talk about, who's taking off their clothes, so I found the song funny. And when mentioning the list of Kate Winslet movies, even more funny!

reply

I thought it was hilarious! It wasn't about embarrassing the women but it was making fun of guys like Seth McFarlane whose first reaction to masterpiece movies such as Monster, The Reader and Brokeback Mountain is "BOOBS!" and the fact that the media makes such a fuss about seeing them in a film.

Also, why are boobs such a taboo for some people? We've all seen them and most of us have held them in our mouths.

reply

It was funny. Get a sense of humor and understand it. They're ctresses who do show their BOOBS, they're not doctors. Ha

I really can't believe that anyone wouldn't understand what this was about. The reactions from the women were pre-recorded.In other words, they were not offended. They were doing what they do for a living. They were ACTING.
I don't see what the big fuss is all about. Many of the gowns I see at the Oscars leave very little to the imagination. I hardly think that a song called, We Saw Your Boobs is going to scar children for life!

"Fasten your seat belts!
It's going to be a bumpy night!"

KittMc, I agree. It was a very sophomoric song, and right at the intro of the Oscars. Not a great start.

If he had waited until the middle of the show, it would've been better -- AND if it had highlighted nudity among actors and actresses (how about almost full nudity from Harvey Keitel in The Piano or hysterical bum scenes like Jack Nicholson?)

As for the actresses, I would've just owned it and not gotten upset. They are, in fact, just boobs for heaven sake. Charlize Theron took herself way too seriously when McFarlane referenced her and she seemed to get annoyed.

And by the way, Naomi Watts' expression is priceless when she realizes what he's saying. The slow dawning shock is actually hysterical. Own it ladies.

Erm...just to point out both Theron and Watts were in on the joke, it was a prerecorded skit

and for godssake will you people get a sense of humour.

reply

The actresses were in on it. And most of the movies mentioned were considered at the top of their art.
