dark knight rises had horrible sound mixing/editing. just saying.

reply

Also I don't think some of those movies met the requirements to even be considered to be nominated for an Oscar...

reply

Such as?

reply

Certain categories have to have a certain amount of votes from a specific group of people to even get in the category to begin with so pretty much what was nominated are your choices. For score you have to make sure that not one part of the instrumental music came from another work (like what happened with the Godfather). Costume Design has to be designed for specific use in only that motion picture and nothing else so technically I don't think Dark Knight Rises would count.

reply

Well last time I checked Bane's, Catwoman's and Talia's costumes were specifically designed for The Dark Knight Rises.
Moreover, actually The Godfather part 2 won Best Original Score and The Godfather part 3 was nominated in this categorie, although both of them used instrumental musical pieces from the soundtrack of The Godfather.
Also, more recently, The Artist won Best Original Score despite incorporating without proper authorization the full Love Theme from Vertigo.

Actually if you had even paid attention to my list - instead of just dwelling on your prejudice towards comicbook/superhero movies, doesn't matter how well crafted - you'd realise that I've also mentioned pretty mature, bold, complex and ambitious films, such as End of Watch, Killer Joe, Cloud Atlas and The Master, alongside bursts of originality like Moonrise Kingdom, Looper and Django Unchained.
So next time, try descending from your arrogance spot before posting the first *beep* that comes to your brilliant and elder mind.

Well actually I believe that the Academy itself could hardly be taken seriously by nominating The Kings Speech and Lincoln for 12 Oscars each or by awarding Slumdog Millionaire 8 Oscars. And it's pretty obvious to anyone with a critical sense that The Dark Knight Rises (or Django Unchained, Cloud Atlas...)is well ahead of any of those movies.

Next time you want to talk about acting try analyzing each performance in the context of the movie where it was done instead of effortlessly just stating the actor can't act at all. Both Gyllenhall and McConaughy have done pretty wooden performances but they also have been previously brilliant in movies like Brokeback Mountain and Contact (respectively). However, I'm sure that your either restrict or selective knowledge didn't allow you to note that and just as sure that you at least didn't saw End of Watch and certainly didn't heard about Killer Joe at all, given your insistence in avoiding to comment on their quality when criticizing my pick for the awards.

Thus, I completely understand your need to rely on your prejudice to make your point and I'll be here for you when you start backing them up with sensible arguments.

P.S.: Seriously you believe that the Academy keeps the greatest experts in the technical fields? The same ones who awarded The Social Network the Best Editing (in the year of the montage tour-de-force called Inception) and denied Children of Men the Best Cinematography prize in 2006 - despite its 3 magnificent and uncanny long shots?

Cloud Atlas? are you drunk?

My Voting history is secret;)

reply

Yeah, the very same Cloud Atlas which brilliantly have edited together 6 complimentary stories (of different genres) together to craft the single most ambitious and humanist thematic scope out of the films of 2012...

to be more precise, it came damn close to do that, but didnt quite get there (maybe the extended cut will)

reply

The only issue I see is how many draws you have. A good part of the oscars is tough decisions so make up your damn mind!
