This is nobody's fault, but your own.... and mine.... and people like us who appreciate nonsensical works. But you must also understand, more than 40% of the population is the 'lungi' type - illiterate in one way or the other.

Oops! You missed this line me thinks.

Haider is not the type of movie everyone enjoys in India because of the content. Not everyone will take their family to watch such gore.

OTH, Happy New Year is a kind of movie that everyone considers harmless fun.

And then, there are idiots who are still stuck on Shahrukh for his 2 decades old movies.

Just a question..

Why does all the new movies gets better Box Office collections every time? Like in Hollywood, Titanic had the record like almost 10 years

Is it because of the ticket prices gets higher? Or because of bigger population?

I remember in 2005, Mangal Pandey made First week record with 19 crore, and now this movie make 45 in just one day... How?

I enjoyed watching both Haider and Happy New Year.

Haider is the best film I've seen this year. Period.

And Happy New Year managed to entertain me big time for 3 hours. (It put a big grin on my face that did not come off till after the end credits.)

There's room for different types of cinema.
It's only natural that all-out entertainers do better at the box-office than a film aimed at an audience familiar with Shakespeare.

Also, when was the last time an english Shakespeare adaptation did better at the box-office than let's say a Michael Bay movie?

I think that's not a fair comparison. Batman movies are bound to do well. Do you know how popular Batman and Joker are? Most academy award nominated movies don't make a lot of money. I think that is the difference, Bollywood award shows chooses to award movies that make money but Oscar looks for 'good' movies. Not saying all Oscar nominations are absolute gold.

Batman Begins came after Batman and Robin and that was considered a good film. Strong word of mouth and people watching the movie in theatre/tv created hype of Dark Knight. Ledger's death created even more hype. Joker is one of the most iconic villians.
Read my sentence again... I said most. Ones you listed are obviously an exception to that. Don't tell me that all Oscar noms earn north of 100mil...
