Geez. Other than Effy, not a single notable character is even likable. They're all jerks or losers or both. The main male is probably the worst.

And nothing else makes any sense.

Why didn't he ask multiple people to translate the letter for him?

Why hadn't he already asked multiple people about the address? Hello Google? Hello?

Why does he continue on after finding out his grandfather was a Nazi A-hole?

Why does he continue on after finding out the letter is just his father (as a young boy of course) telling his Nazi A-hole grandfather to EFF OFF? What is supposed to be the point of this? That is how he wants to spend his summer vacation? Ridiculous.

None of the people who are supposedly from metro NYC sound the least bit like that. Not at all. They sounded more like white-supremacists from Oregon.

The only thing that almost makes sense is something they do their best to hide. It is likely Effy is being molested by Henrik, which is why she's so "mature" (if you want to call it that) for her age.
