Why don't the bears eat the wolf?

Sky and her cubs were supposedly starving, so why doesn't she eat the wolf instead of trying to escape from him? Or why doesn't she try to get the birds that are always around. I mean, they come across several animals throughout the movie, so why wait specifically for the fish?

My two guesses:

(1) it's incredibly staged, and the bears weren't starving. Or,

(2) the mother didn't want to wander too far from the cubs. Even if she was fast enough the chase a wolf, the cubs would be left in the open, and what if the wolf circled back? It was probably instinct to stay with the cubs instead of chasing after a wolf.

Because it's bears and not humans/chimpanzees/dolphins, they are just dumb, no matter how cute movie try to make them and humanize them. As for wolf, she would be probably way too slow to catch the wolf which can run much faster than dog for longer time, I guess it's similar case with birds, although I would like to see at least that they tried it, otherwise it's just plain dumb animal robots programmed to - eat, sleep & reproduce, just because they are cute it doesn't make them intelligent or having human characteristics.

You guys clearly didn't pay attention to the movie and know nothing about bears. If you actually watched the movie then you would obviously see bears are extremely smart and see the great lengths they go through to protect their cubs and find food. Its funny that people assume bears are just crazy carnivores and only eat meat and should be killing any animal they come across when it's the opposite. Plants can make up 90% of a bears diet, grassy plants, berries etc. Fish is their primary source of protein especially in areas like Alaska.
