Judge HALTS the movie's release! Won't come out for months!

The movie was slated to be released TOMORROW. A judge just granted a temporary restraining order against the film's release, at least until January 28th when they have another hearing on the matter. The producers of The Hobbit were able to prove to the judge's satisfaction that the Asylum purposely intended to confuse people into thinking this was The Hobbit or was somehow related to it.

The Asylum does this all the time. I have no doubt their films confuse people. I'm surprised it took the film companies this long. Course I think Fox threatened legal action when Asylum released THE DAY THE EARTH STOPPED (yeah, real creative!), but pulled out. I haven't seen too many of the Asylum's films. There more original works years back were bad enough.

Is anybody really that stupid that they'd confuse this for the real hobbit film

reply

Sadly, yeah. Or it may not be so much that they'd think it's the actual movie being released in theaters Friday, but they may think it's somehow linked to the series. I don't ever heard the word "Hobbit" used outside of the Lord of the Rings franchise, so that's understandable. Of course, I personally would do a little research and would realize it's a cheap knock off and would never rent it, but some people would probably rent it for their kids or something. Who knows?

reply

Actually the word Hobbit is used pretty commonly in many different fantasy video games and books, and not just in the LoTR. It is also supposedly an ancient race(or "ancestor") to humans. If Assylum fought it, they could easily win considering the content of the movie is related to the older race of humans.

Yes, unfortunatly Asylum's disgusting business practices do fool people. I personally stopped someone from buying a few of their releases at the store because they thought they were the bigger-budget Hollywood versions.

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

Frankly I say to anyone "if you're dumb enough to rent it, you deserve to watch it."

I suppose these are the same idiots who try and download The Hobbit (2012 version) on DVD the same day it came out in the cinema

Not everyone has heard of The Asylum. And in some cases, even people who know better can be duped due to a combination of circumstances and deceptive practices.

Asylum released a Blu-Ray called 11/11/11, which was a rip off of 11-11-11. The studio that released 11-11-11 decided to NOT release a region A Blu-Ray. So that means, if you see the Asylum 11/11/11 Blu-Ray sitting on the shelf, one could very easily assume it's 11-11-11. Cases like that really piss me off.

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: absolutely.

wal-mart still has it on the selves, not sure how anyone could get confused on this one, some of the others maybe but this was one of asylum lest blatant rip-off,rip off none the less but not as blatant as some of their others

reply

Yeah, the movie had already been shipped to stores when the ruling came out, so I'm sure there will be several places around the country that aren't aware they're not supposed to put it out.

The Asylum has changed the title to the more generic Clash Of The Empires. I guessed that would happen after its release was blocked, seeing how that is what they did when Universal sued them over their Battleship mockbuster (the title was changed from American Battleship to American Warships).

reply

The funny thing is that the movie may have a different title, but it still isn't coming out until after the court case. They must have just realized they should distance themselves as much as possible from the Hobbit name leading up to the hearing on January 28th.

reply

Hmmm... I just rented this, as "Age of the Hobbits", from Family Video this evening.

reply

If you rented it with the knowledge that it was an Ass-sylum rip-off, then I feel sorry for you.

I'm waiting for one of the Asylum's directors to come here and preach about how they do what they love.

That is if ripping off people by making *beep* is doing what most directors love.

Amazon has it up for streaming rental under the title Lord of the Elves.

Got it at Wal-Mart. I knew what it was. I just think Asylum is awesome and am collecting all their movies.

Mega Shark Vs Giant Octopus and 2-Headed Megashark are awesome. I saw the Hobbit in the theater, but I have a feeling that Age of the Hobbits will rival it.
