anyone surprised McGregor agreed to do this?

It was a decent film. But this is the kind of role Jason statham does. Or Michael Madsen.

Frankly, McGregor was a strange choice for the role. I cringed when he was trying to do the tough guy act. I blame the director though.

Seemed fine. Jason statham has no acting credibility. All he knows how to do is drive a car or shoot a gun.

-Spoilers are for the weak

He's played the tough guy in mo urs before. Ewan is a very well crafted actor. I thought the movie was good. It was definitely emotional, not what I expected.

Michael Madsen? I can't remember him doing this type of role.

There was a nice cast in The Rover and I put this flick in the same category.

Snowpiercer and Only lovers Left Alive another one that has the likes of John Hurt and Tilda Swinton in both...hell, Loki was in the latter.

These people like to work and they'll do small budget obscure films that you can only find on Netflix if you dig.

^ I thought of the Rover too

He does a lot of films that aren't mainstream as do pretty much all actors. His acting is plenty good enough to play a criminal/ prison tough guy role. Lots of guys who have done so, never did before playing their first prison role. There's an Irish prison movie, I forget the name which has several recognizable actors, Damien Lewis plays the prison "alpha" who happens to be homosexual. That's gotta be a tough role to play, and he's a mainstreamer. McGregor is totally fine in this. The acting is on an even keel. The guy who plays Ra's Al Ghul in Arrow is good in his minor role

reply

Nope - McGregor was great in this.

Jason Statham - haha...moron.
