Guilt

I had two cats declawed. The vet didn't sell this to me. I wanted it because my cat was destroying the furniture. Neither of my cat seemed to suffer the inability to walk as these cats did (thank god) and they lived out their lives seemingly happy and ok. However, if I had seen this I would have ever considered declawing them. The most upsetting portion was watching the big cats trying to walk without their claws. I did notice my cats paws were somewhat splayed. At any rate, I'm horrified as to what went into declawing my cats and no vet discussed my desire with me.

I had one of my two cats declawed. I hadn't really thought about declawing him, but the vet 'sold' it to me as a package deal when I got him neutered. This was more than 12 years ago, so there wasn't as much information out there about what declawing actually is. I thought they just somehow took out their claws. I didn't know it was an amputation.

Thankfully my boy seems to be okay. He DOES bite more than my other cat (that I got years later who isn't declawed), he doesn't always cover up his mess in the litter box and he hates having his feet touched, but he doesn't limp, refuse to use the box or seem to be in pain.

I would never get another cat declawed. It's insane that this hasn't been banned everywhere in this country.
