Stupid lack of continuity 2 to 3

In Taken 2, the old guy that he kills has two sons who are clearly going to be gunning for Brian. It is even stated outright in the film. This is the obvious premise for Taken 3. But no - we have to switch to some Russian guys and Stuart. This leaves the whole ending of Taken 2 hanging... Sooo stupid.
