He looks nothing like Johnny Cash

He looks nothing like Johnny Cash

Agreed. It does distract from the movie!

I can deal with his not looking like Johnny Cash, and even his weird sucking in of his cheeks - but Johnny Cash is one of the few country music singers whose voice I really love. It's iconic. Yet I have to suffer through these old songs that are missing his voice or even a good imitation. Where's the bass? No offense to those of you who love this type of country music, but give those of us who aren't fans of it a great voice to listen to.

I feel like neither Matt Ross nor Jewel is really capturing the sound of the singer they are portraying. Jewel sounds like, well, Jewel and not June. Matt Ross sounds nothing like Johnny Cash.

he did wear black, tho.

No. Considering that they never showed the divorce of either one of them, I got him and Carl Smith confused.

What a bad movie. He looks and sounds nothing like Johnny Cash. Can't get past Jewel's oversized maternity boobs either, looks like the movie is in 3D. The movie portrays Johnny Cash as this hopeless drugged out guy and June Carter as this angelic savior. Hard to swallow. Somewhere along the line, Johnny Cash had to write those great songs and record them and make them famous while June Carter tagged along for the ride. Jewel has an amazing voice, but lately has become lazy and would rather be a celebrity rather than a singer and you see the sorry results in this vehicle movie for her.

i hate to tell you, but if anything, this movie grossly under represented Johnnys addiction, and Junes efforts to get him clean time and time again.

he spent a goodly part of his career messed up on drugs, like many other amazing performers.
But to intimate that June Carter merely tagged along is ludicrous, and downright off base. if anything, June leveraged her own popularity at one point to bring Johnny back after his substance abuse pushed him off stage for an extended convalescence. And she was a star LONG before him, albeit a child star for the most part.

Facts are facts, and while she tied her ship to his, in no way was he towing her, nor she tagging along.

He ruined the movie! I was hanging in there just fine, until I realized this ugly, untalented guy was supposed to be portraying one of the greatest voices in country music. I thought Jewel was okay as June - I mean she tried to emulate her well enough, but this guy was awful - not even close, to Johnny Cash! I didn't think Joaquin Phoenix looked anything like him either, until I saw the movie - he really did a fantastic job of playing him & singing like him. During this movie I kept forgetting this guy was supposed to be Johnny, because I disliked this guy so much.
