Nice OldTimey look at the Carter family + A.P. Carter

Ring of Fire is a great film, very well done especially the focus on June Carter and her family getting by, town to town, doing their best to make ends meet.

Most realistic look at the day in and out grind of musical family trying to survive in an era where there were some different set of circumstances that would have challenged June's family every day.

Her Father, A.P. Carter played by the legendary John Doe, who in real life was a major part of the genesis of the punk scene, that scene at it's beginnings tougher then nails to survive and a long brave walk in the dark, ... Equally thru many Rings of Fire ...

It is John Doe's version of June's Dad, A.P. Carter that came across matter of fact, candid and real, steadfast and really low key.

Therein is the brilliance of his performance. Much like the great Spencer Tracy opposite Van Johnson, later in Spencer Tracy's life where he keeps the scene and film seamless and authentic.

This movie approached Johnny Cash & June Cash more from a long and humble look at the Foundation of these legends. There could be 50 more films made about Johnny Cash and June and each one would have it's own share of their long story.

In those days, true OldTimey days it is very likely there may have never been a June Cash without her having two parents who supported the Carter music family thru the daily, monthly and years long grind before the World saw her as the sweet and adorable, equally tough and talented June Carter who came to be Mrs Cash.

The story cannot be lost regarding how these musical legends arrived as polished veterans of the scene.

Clearly, the story of the Carter family and June's parents are the reason why.

John Doe and the equally great actress who has played many critical supporting roles in the American Horror Story series, apologies for her name escaping this writer, demonstrate how important and critical supporting roles are to a great film.

Like many of the great music groups from another era gone by, where many people want for that era's return and lament the current music scene, those bands were great because of each of the people who supported the Group.

Post film watch it seems better, more natural that the Actor who played Johnny Cash was dialed down a touch because it is Jewel's role as June, the Carter family and everyone dear to them who must be celebrated in film.

Johny Cash and June Cash, their legacy deserves nothing less. And Ring of Fire did this exceptionally well.
