Wait...it's week after week!?

I was under the impression, or just assumed since it is kind of stupid otherwise, that the competition went on day after day, as in each episode picked off a day after the other, so they would do the course, camp, eat what they had been given, and then start the next course in the morning...

...that was until the third episode (I think it was the third), when Bear is talking about the wonders of the food pit (the one the winners of the challenge he sets up get to go to each episode) and how 'Every week the food (could have been the pit) gets better'.

Wait...every week? Does that mean the group filmed one trek/episode, went off to a hotel for the other 6 days, then came back the next week and pretended they had picked up immediately after they had left the elimination site?

I suppose I should have realised when they ended up at the same elimination camp site every episode...

Am a bit unsure how it was all worked out as well because in the final episode when they get the letters am sure that in one of the letters it says they have been out there five months so am guessing that between the trips am kind of assuming that they would have been getting training because you couldn't just be thrown into some of these situations without having practice.

It was day after day. In the episode after the episode where they caught the eels they talked about eating the remaining eels right before going of on the next trip.

The 5 months referred to something else. The mother wrote that it had been 5 hard months for him and that was the guy who had been in the accident 4 months earlier. She included that.
