Interesting choice for elimination

The gay friends get eliminated, because they badmouthed another team based on the the team's struggle with one of the teammates' past injury.

Apparently in this case badmouthing beats building a bad shelter where everybody might freeze to death.

Yea, what's up with that? I'm going to watch that episode again, because that elimination came out of left field and I must have missed something.

Or the main sponsor, Walmart, didn't want a gay identified team to come close to the win and Grylls obliged as soon he saw an opportunity.

It didn't seem like that was the reason though. Bear was clearly on Jeff's side and took Royce's words very personally. I've been assuming for a while now that Chris and Jeff are the winners since the editing has heavily favored them, painting the duo as sort of golden boys.

In spite of that gratuitous and nonsensical attack, which came out of nowhere, I'm still annoyed by this elimination. Not only did I like Kyle and Royce, I also think they were one of strongest and most consistent teams on the show. It was a personal reason that got them eliminated, not a logical one. These guys would definitely "get out alive".

Bear was all over the map -- the father and son team was castigated for NOT asking for help, but other teams were docked when they did ask for assistance.

I still loved the show, though. I hope there is a second season.

It made sense to a certain degree.

In the instances I remember one team got docked because they asked for help with a fairly simple task and took away time from something that was more time sensitive (I think Bear thought that after being shown how to cut the skin from the flesh they should have been able to skin the goat without further assistance and the guy who helped them was needed in shelter building), in the other case two people had problems with starting a fire which was critical to the whole group.

So the underlying rule is, better ask for help than to screw everybody over but don't waste the time of others if you can manage on your own.

I think it was destined to become a series of iffy decisions once it got down to these 5 teams. The previous 5 teams that were eliminated would not have gotten out alive, the final 5 teams would. Although clearly if it was an individual competition that chiseled guy with the hot fiance would win; he's doing the work of two people more or less himself, AND he's keeping up with the other teams.

Our Order does not deal in pig sh*t!

those guys were a very strong team though, as the competition comes closer its anyone game at the bear camp so they said something bear chose to take offence to, they gave him a reason.

reply

Dang, I keep forgetting this show is on. Missed another episode.

The final three teams should have been Chris and Jeff, Kyle and Royce, and Madeline and her fiancee. The two parent/child teams were annoying as hell and basically just looking out for themselves. Even though Madeline was a little weak her guy did the work for both and all three teams helped others. especially CHris and Jeff.

Would have been interesting if there were a viewer vote like there was on that Hero show with Dwayne Johnson.

reply

I disagree with with your final choice (Alabama) for final three. Her fiancee was strong, but there were times when he didn't step up fully or was relying a bit too much on the other teams when they had a job. Kyle and Royce probably should have been the winners, but they were unjustly eliminated.

Kyle and Royce would have given Chris and Jeff a run for the gold and it would have been a good competition. I would have been happy with either winning.

I think Kyle and Royce were eliminated because they were gay. If I recall, I was pretty sure Lucky and Louie were going to be eliminated that night. I think they were even surprised they werent.

I can't say what BG was thinking when he eliminated Chris and Jeff. However, you could tell through the entire show he really liked Lucky and Louie. They should have been eliminated after Louie decided to have every one pull him across the ravine instead of trying to go across himself. As Bear himself said, this was more about who he'd want to have at his side if he were lost in the wild. I guess since he already has all of the survival skills he wants someone to keep his spirits up.

Are you serious? That girl Madeline didn't do ANYTHING throughout the show, anything. Well, except crying and complaining. The dude carried her all the way through, and it being a team competition, well, cya Madeline.
