Where is the Byzantine Empire?

I don't know why but the show took a very biased view on the history of the evolution of mankind and how the nations interracted with each other.

For example, Marr spoke more about the contribution of Mali (!!!) in the history of Mankind than he talked about the contribution of Byzantium.

The Byzantine Empire, for those who don't know, was actually the bastion of Europe against East for 1.100 years.

It had the first and biggest university in the WORLD, the University of Magnaura (Pandidaktirion) were ancient greek philosophy, roman law, ancient greek literature, rhetoric, music, astronomy, geometry, mathematics, medicine was taught. Hiliad and Odyssey was taught to almost every citizen of Constantinople.

Two Byzantine-Greek scholars, Cyril and Methodius were the ones who created the Glagolitic alphabet and civilized the Slavs.

It had the biggest library in Europe, which stored tenths of thousands of manuscripts from ancient greek and latin writers.

The Byzantine manuals on medicine making were the basis for the development of medicine making in Italy.

The Russian culture is actually based on Byzantine culture. The Byzantines heavily influenced Russian civilization and were the ones who helped in their christianization.

The show tells us that the Muslims saved the ancient manuscripts while at the time they arrived in Spain, there were already present many Byzantine libraries full of them. And it was actually the Byzantine emperors who sent manuscripts and books to the muslims of the East. That's how they got in contact with ancient greek philosophy.

No mention for the Byzantine architecture that inspired the Western Architecture.

And it was actually the Byzantine scholars from the Pandidaktirion who immigrated to Italy that caused the Renaissance.

In Byzantium even took place the first surgery to split shiamese twins, mentioned by John Skylitzes, a historian of the time which was succesful, although they died three days later.

So, I think it would deserve a little bit more time than just showing its capture by the Ottomans.
