It burnt down/disappeared after the Islamic conquest, so hardly a myth. People like Marr, and others like him, should have a look at the origins of the Renaissance in Italy and Western culture. The monastic libraries, Charlemagne, the Papacy, the Greek scholars that fled from the east in the face of marauding Turks. I didn't hear him talk much about the 20m black Africans Islam enslaved and was still enslaving into the 20th century, just propaganda.
