the Makers of this film seem to have forgotten about the nuclear submarines of our navy and other navies which likely could dive and survive for many days and nights beyond the 40 the title suggests.

But aside from that, yeah it seems weird that there's no mention of subs, or nuclear power. While not the safest energy source, and with difficult waste management, it is at least a proven and tried power source. Instead of equipping these never before tried new vessels, with a completely novel power source.
