Why did Lasse... (SPOILERS)

Why did Lasse have to go to the conference and sleep with her? Was that part of the revenge which I didn't get, or was it about making sure it was actually her before setting up the rest of his plan? If it was made clear, I missed it.

Probably just done from the writer's point of view to progress the story i.e. if he had never attended the conference then the police would never have got the lead they needed to identify him.

As for that character's motivation for doing this, maybe he wanted to ensure that his great reveal outside the tank later on would register with her, or maybe the thought of having sex with his potential torture victim gave him the psycho-horn. He was nuts though, so wouldn't try and read too much into it.

I think he wanted to get to know his victim. He planned to keep her alive for many years, so a straight up kidnapping could lead to his capture while a disappearance under circumstances (like on a ship) that could lead to other conclusions (suicide). He even managed to get Uffe to trust him which takes time and was also part of the plan (that part isn't mentioned in the book).

Well, he looked in her calendar seeing that she was going to Berlin with her brother and in that way he knew when to kidnap her. So sleeping with her was to get close and find a way to kidnap her.

reply

That's a very good point. He could've just kidnapped/made her seem as though she commited suicide at the conference and then they would've never caught him.

reply

I think he wanted to possess her, toy with her and then destroy her.
