what a weird movie!

* possible spoilers ahead! *

This movie just made me uncomfortable.
First, I didn't get the wife being all upset about his foot and then the daughter saying "why do these things always happen to daddy?" without seemingly having any context. For some unknown reason I almost turned the movie off right here.
And then at the therapists office, holy crap. Can't believe the wife couldn't tell him anything. What a weak and small person. Almost unrealistically so.
Then at the pool she says they should communicate through their lawyers even though she was the one that came over to talk to him?

The dialogue just felt so strained and it felt like it was written by a teenager. It didn't feel like the scenes or characters were set up at all. We were just thrown into them willy nilly.
I got to the point where he was with the girl from the dating site and I couldn't do it anymore. Couldn't watch another minute.

yeah, it is a weird movie.

we managed to watch the whole thing, and while I did enjoy it for what it is, I kinda don't see the point of the whole thing.

Ok, at the start, they show us the guy is somewhat of a clueless doofus and accident prone .

We can see his wife is exasperated with him, but there is no real context provided, so when she has her therapist inform him of the divorce, it just seems cruel, so we now hate the wife.

Then later, the guy is doinking chicks while his very young daughter is in the house (c'mon dude, how low is that!?!) so now we hate the guy.

It is mildly funny in a few scenes, but with no one to really root for it was hard to stay interested.

Then at the end you think he is gonna hook up with this interesting gal from his past, so maybe he will find some real happiness and a real relationship, but no, he cans that idea to build stuff in his backyard for his daughter (even tho just a scene before, she was never coming back to his house... so somehow that got magically worked out i guess).

So, while it is great he is trying to have a relationship with his daughter, the viewer is kinda left hanging as the movie seemed to be more about his relationships with various gals after his wife dumped him.

Yes, weird is a good description of this movie!

If they had added an extra 10 or 20 minutes to focus on him winning his daughter over, if that is the choice he made, I would've liked the movie more. Because as it stands, the whole daughter thing is magically resolved by him building that stuff and I guess becoming celibate. The whole climax of the movie is the last scene with his ex-wife which still didn't explain any of her actions. According to little things said, she just got bored with him and banged another dude. Instead of simply expressing her feelings to him. On one hand it seemed like she had a problem with confrontation, on the other hand she was so confrontational the rest of the movie. It's cool he got a minor victory in that scene but it still needed a little more. Scenes with her were so hard to watch because she was such a *beep* Like a real ex-wife. You think regular exes are bad or crazy....imagine an ex with a lawyer...

I agree. He kept bumping into things and tripping. I thought they were just trying to be funny, but even seriously there is not enough context there for this to mean much of anything. Yeah, he's a clutz. Which really has nothing to do with the rest of the story after the wife left.

And then at the therapists office, holy crap. Can't believe the wife couldn't tell him anything. What a weak and small person. Almost unrealistically so.

Agreed (again). The therapist should know that when you drop a bomb like that on somebody they are going to want to talk about it. But she was only concerned with her session with her patient. Why drag someone else into this and not let them speak? Seemed very unprofessional to me.

Then at the pool she says they should communicate through their lawyers even though she was the one that came over to talk to him?

I caught this too. I'm not sure if this was bad writing or a character flaw.

I let the entire DVD play, but I was in and out of the room. I know a movie is bad when I don't pause it. This was awful. No clue how it got into Tribeca. The "stars" weren't that damn famous. Shame on major film festivals for playing this crap!

A weird and bad movie. No resolution at the end. The daughter didn't want to stay with him but with no explanation she's back. There were too many gaps in the story. Probably when they were filming someone dropped the script and didn't pick up all the pages.

Yeah, the whole accident-prone thing didn't seem at all relevant to the plot (such as it was). And I can't see a therapist letting a third party into a session just to have this pronouncement dropped on them without explanation or opportunity for discussion. Very unprofessional. The wife seemed like a pathetic coward, and the guy having sex with one woman after another in the house with his daughter seemed like a self-absorbed douche bag. Other than some sympathy for the kid caught in the middle it was hard to like the main characters.

Clearly there was a whole missing part which explained why the daughter went from not wanting to be in that house anymore to suddenly being back. Or maybe I should say accounted for. There wasn't a lot of explaining in this film, in terms of events or characters' actions being sensible and having actual reasons. Seriously. If your storyline is already disjointed why edit things out that make it even more so? Maybe there was a point to this movie. I didn't get it though.

The only redeeming thing about this movie was his dates and the sex that ensued. They were all pretty hilarious. Other than that, this movie really sucked.
