Pretty confusing.. doesn't really say what happens to his wife lol.

I'm not even saying this sarcastically, but I think she just wasn't getting enough attention from David and had a bit of the crazy - so she joined a cult where she'd get a lot of attention and could indulge her crazy.

Presumably, she moved on with the remainder of the cult. It was mentioned that the town was found empty.

Not very exciting, but I think that's what we're supposed to get from it.

About 7/8ths of the way through filming, Alice Braga asked, "So exactly who do I have to *beep* to get out of this turgid piece of crap movie?" They told her, she did, and she left.

There was a shot of them parting ways at the Rio Grande, meaning she went to Mexico and he stayed in the US.

I don't think that was his wife. I think it was the Calderon woman.

Just flicked through the end of it again and I think you may be right. Not sure what happened to his wife now.
