Am I the only one that likes Joan Ferguson?

Come on, who doesn't have a few skeletons in their closet. She kept the ship steady when she served as Governor, and mostly free from hard narcotics, except for the odd hot shot here and there.

If you mean like, as in she is a good guy, not a villainess, then I'd have to disagree with you.

Sure I agree with your points, in her first season as Governor she was good and effective. She wanted to create a top dog she could control. And she tried to pit Franky and Bea against each other. That isn't so bad. But in hindsight, all those actions were to lead up to her controlling the whole prison in her own sick demented way and be able to get away with such menacing things like with Jodie Spiteri and Will Jackson.

We discovered from that other girl who was only in a couple of episodes that spoke to Fletcher about how scared she was of Ferguson from knowing her from a previous prison and how what she done to Jodie and her eye, is what had happened to her. So sure everyone has skeletons, but her evilness was outlined and explained to us that it was there for a long time, lingering. I wouldn't say any sane person would have such hate and vengeance built up over such a long time to want to do the things she done to get her revenge or carry out her games.

I think it was the end of season 2 when Bea escaped and when she returned one of the final scenes was her being escorted back into the prison passing by Ferguson and all she did was say right to her face "You're a Freak". I guess it was obvious then that she wanted to control the prison and control the inmates and was pitting them against each other for her own personal pleasure or for whatever reason.

The most of season 2 where she seemed very effective and in control was in the end and in hindsight just a decoy, or a cover.

It was clear almost from the time Joan was introduced that she had ulterior motives. That episode where she's pumping Vera with alcohol for secrets happens fairly early on in season 2. Her behavior wasn't kept in the dark at all.

I LOVE Joan. She is my favorite character. So complex and intriguing. Plus, Pamela Rabe is a gorgeous woman. :)

Pamela Rabe is a fantastic actor...probably the best one on the show. The weak link is the one who plays Vera. Who could seriously believe in her as governor of Wentworth?.

Who could seriously believe in her as governor of Wentworth?

It's not believable, I think that's why we found out she blackmailed the board into promoting her.

reply

Vera is great and according to Ferguson she blackmailed to be Governor.

So go on. Kiss me. Kill me. Do something.

Pamela Rabe is a gorgeous woman.

I think she looks like Frank Langella in drag.

reply

Of course not. She's an incredible actress, and I have a total crush on her. In the show, of course it is more Love/Hate.

reply

The actress is obviously amazingly talented, but her character in the show is a demented psychopath. Psychopaths make for good entertainment on TV shows and movies, but you surely wouldn't want to come across one in real life.

So yes, of course her character is interesting and entertaining, but I find it kind of disturbing to actually like this character and not be bothered by the character's actions and behavior in the show.

reply

Not only to "not be bothered" but to justify and excuse her obviously demented actions by... saying the jail was free of narcotics? Hmmm... yeah except the ones she uses to kill Simone. She's totally misunderstood... or something.

And complex? lol. Please. She's boringly predictable.

reply

Joan is my favorite! And Pamela Rabe is my favorite actress.

reply

I love Joan Ferguson. By far the best character in the show. So complex, so devious, so nuanced. Pamela Rabe is phenomenal.

reply

Agreed, she's such a great character.
