Wachowskis, please change that god awful intro for Season 2.

They need to change the intro for season two. It adds nothing to the show and is completely derivative. Turn the sound down and watch the intro with say Ray of Light and you would be none the wiser. Play Black Magic by Kitty Mix and it turns into some teen rom dram. Here are some good examples
West World
Salem
Orphan Black
Walking Dead
Stranger Things [Half the length ten times the power of Sense8]
Hannibal
even The Simpsons
Less intro and another minute of actual content or please please, dig into that Matrix and create an opening sequence worthy of the provocative show that follows.

Problem is, it's nominated for an Emmy- so they definitely won't be changing it!

The music isn't the issue - that horrible montage is. The images need to be linked, have some form of story arc.
Guys licking ice cream CUT TO Siberia where a guy has a snowball hit his face [sensation] falls down laughing
CUT TO London woman tripping over on a rainy day [pain]
CUT TO Rio de Janeiro people diving into a pool PAN up to Statue of Christ [religion]
CUT TO Knoxville peoples arms outstretched in a church, preacher on the mic
CUT TO London DJ on the mic people dancing taking drugs [escape]
CUT TO Berlin somebody taking the pill looking in the mirror [birth]
CUT TO Goa person looking into a mirror at the new infinity tattoo on their shoulder [statement]
CUT TO Akureyri ice skater making infinity symbol in ice
Screen splits into 2,4,6,8
Twists in on it self
TRANSITION into chrome 8 reflecting all the images back in on itself
TRANSITION into Sense8

The end.

or something like that. Ditch the zebras!

You just take care of that when you make your next Netflix series.

Haha - working on it.

That's a really good idea!

It actually says a lot about the series. It shows the beauty of the world and many of the ways people come together. The music also starts out slow and builds in intensity. I'd say it's very illustrative of the show.

The problem is it doesn't say anything about the series. The series is pretty amazing and I'm glad it's got an Emmy nod but that intro is like some high-school video project. Chucking together a bunch of random images just cheapens the show. The montage is unfocused, badly edited and builds up to nothing of any significance. As illustrated with the list I provided, this is a really lo-brow example of an intro relying on the audience reading whatever they want into it.
The whole series has these play on words, play on situations, exploration of identity, gender, loyalty, birth, death and family. Nomi Know Me the 8 also being the infinity symbol. Sense8 sense it sens8tion you get the drift. That intro is just flabby. If you can put it to any Kitty Mix track then it fails.
It's so frustrating I feel like cutting something myself.

i thought the opening visuals were to show all (or many) different ways of life and different cultures/people, just like on the show how it has different people from different parts of the world/different cultures/etc. i actually like the opening granted i'd be perfectly fine if it was shortened. but that's my opinion of pretty much any show. i HATE long opening credits/music in shows. i remember back when TRUE BLOOD was on, it would piss me off that the opening credits/song was an actual full song that lasted like 3 plus minutes! lol. i'd fast forward through them.

the STRANGER THINGS opening is perfection IMO. it's just long enough and the music perfectly sets the tone for the show (and is awesome in it's own right!). ultimately i'd prefer shows to have openings like

SUPERNATURAL:

LUCIFER:

i like them short because it allows it to get the show/the episode started right away. :)

Supernatural and Lucifer are good examples of opening credits relevant to what follows. Sense8 feels like a montage of archive footage, almost like a placeholder for a proper intro.

We start with WIDES and landscapes - OK defining locations
Then we jump to a Twin Peaks nod followed by elephants...elephants? Why?
Then a scone or a bun or something - time to make tea as the intro will be long?
More location shots then CUT to a giraffe...OK so wild animals are important…
More location shots and some sculpture - CUT to horses - we get it now mammals rock
More location shots then MID-SHOT of a house, skyscraper and a bridge…OK people live in buildings and I guess bridges are a safe haven from wild animals?
SHOT of cricket followed by fruit...you can bowl with oranges maybe?
More mammals this time sheep followed by sausages...pork sausages are better than lamb? We all end up on the grill in the end?
More location shots then an erupting volcano - if you wish to cook sausages then the best place is a volcano not a street with lots of cars
TIMELAPSE cars CUT to Zebra – right! so this was the rejected intro for Zoo?
TIMELAPSEs of cities then CUT to a tea picker - a reminder to make that cup of tea you forgot while watching the intro
Location shots of people around the world CUT to religion then a Chicago Cubs mascot – People are really animals? The walking mascot represents the spirit within?
Festivals - guys licking ice cream then a ferris wheel - ah everything goes round so one day you also will get ice cream [also the only scene that has differing angles by the way]
Waterfall then festivals - don't hold your gig under or next to a waterfall?
Various happy people CUT to a fun-fair - OK the world turns but what happened to the animals?
Theme is building to a climax we've got party people, flags, a festival vibe, demo march this is gonna be awesome!
Finish with a sunset over a city…

The end...

WTF! What happened to the animals? I was really getting into the animals there were so many more cute mammals to explore. Not even a freakin’ squirrel!

This intro says people party, pray, work and play and there is an awful lot of drone footage, timelapse and holiday footage going around.

Oh and ice-cream is best eaten with a friend.

reply

Bahahahaha. You are hilarious. I'm going to be channeling this monologue every time I have to sit through that infernal intro. ???

Dang, those question marks were supposed to be laughing faces, now it looks like I wasn't sure of my comment when I definitely was. X) X) X)

Own it
with a cuppa tea

i love the intro!

reply

The intro is literally the ONLY thing I don't like about this show.

reply

What about those ending credits!!?? the worse thing i've ever seen! Why are they using such meaningless font?? and the shade of white the text is in just doesn't add to the story!!

reply

It's probably one of the best intros to a show I've never seen.

By the way, you can skip the intros. It is allowed.
