What an offensive pile of trash

I'm sorry, it's 2013? I thought we were over this horrible "gay best friend" stereotype that doesn't help anyone.

Lighten up. The creator of the film is gay. It's not really being offensive. And ultimately it seems like it will have a good message that gay people are still people, not accessories. Besides, the movie isn't exactly wrong. The "gay best friend" has become like an accessory for a lot of girls. A lot of girls who don't have one seem to want one. Just watch most romantic comedies and the main character will probably have a token gay friend. As someone who is gay it really doesn't bother me. I was talking to a female friend recently and she can't stand being friends with other girls and she finds most to be back-stabbing b*tches. She's always been attracted to gay guys as friends. Her best friend growing up was gay, and now she has me. I'm not really the stereotypical gay friend though. I don't like shopping or anything, but I will see chick flicks with them, something their husbands don't want to do. But I am also friends with their husbands too and we see action flicks and stuff together. My one friend and her husband work together and he was telling his co-workers that every couple should have "a gay." LOL. I guess some might be offended by it, but they really care about me and personally I'm flattered.

My sister, my cousin, my niece, all of them have mentioned to me at some point that they wish they had a G.B.F.

Would you rather people ran us out of town with pitchforks? I'd personally rather be accepted. I know not everyone does but this is certainly an improvement from how gay people used to be treated, IMO.

I'm a gay man and I fund the GBD concept absolutely offensive. Rather than a human, I'll turned into an accessory, I'm not considered a good friend because I'm loyal, loving, generous, positive, or fun...I'm a gray friends based solely on the set of genitals I prefer. It takes us from being actual people with thoughts and feelings to a place where we are only needed when a girl needs to know what shoes to pair with an outfit. Maybe you don't see it and/or agree, but there is a world of difference between GBF and ” this is my best friend, who also happens to be gay”. I'm not here to be your bff fantasy/token gay in the group, I'm interested in being friends with people who want ME as a friend, not someone who shrugs ahead goes ” I'll take that one because he likes penis”. It's called fetishization, and it is a form of discrimination housing behind a sadly thin veneer of positivity. Think back to coming out...would you have kept friends who based how they felt about you entirely on your sexuality? There's far more to a person than who their genitals tingle for.

When you're 17 a cow can seem dangerous and forbidden...am I alone here?

that's kind of, i dunno...the *beep* Point!

it's a satire on how other people view us (the gays!)

do you not realize that the director, two main stars (Iacono and Willet), one supporting star (Mullaly), and I think even the screenwriter, are all LGBT?

You honestly think ALL of those people would make a film about a horrible stereotype if they actually believed it? Or condoned it?

It's a satire, not a realistic view on the world. Get over yourself.

I probably should have looked more into the movie them, I was just explaining why the concept of ?omg I love teh gaiz? is considered offensive. If this is a good satire about how silly a ?GBF? thought process really is I'm completely on board, though.

reply

you clearly didnt stay until the end because that was the exact opposite of the film's point-your comment sounds inane

reply

As i started in the comment above, i was unaware of the satirical angle and was replying to the poster who said "lighten up" and not talking about the film itself as a whole.

Hello...I'm not gay, I'm not a man and I find the whole concept stupid and ludicrous.
I have had a number of gay friends, men mostly. I have to mention, I'd rather hang out with a gay man, then many of the straight, stupid, *beep* women that are out there. That being said, I think this is just really stupid movie because gay men and gay women are basically no different than anybody else, Hello WORLD! What they have is a different perspective on love, marriage and sex. So what! I like them because they're my friends. Not because they're gay. This movie really just made me sick. Is it SO very necessary to single out one small portion of the population? Why, people, why? It feels like total reverse discrimination.
Maybe, just maybe, I will start choosing my friends because they like fish and chips . Bahhhhh!!!

P.S.... And by the way, I was BULLIED all through H.S. by these same awful, small minded girls. These girls were mean, lousy, rotten, rude, dreadful (to anyone NOT part of their "clique") and I can't think of any more adjectives! They made my life,( and the lives of MANY OTHERS ,too) QUITE MISERABLE. THESE "popular" girls were the cause of MANY tears in my H.S. UGH.
Bullies ought to be jailed or at least sequestered from the rest of the school.

It's satire, they're making fun of people who are in the 'gay best friend' stereotype mindset. You can bet it's going to end with a positive message about people being people etc.

I can see this show becoming a cult classic in the same veins as 'but I'm a cheerleader'.

Nope, refuse to believe you are real. Troll trolls trollingly.

Right?! I'm sure OP hasn't seen the movie. Or even the trailer. He/she saw the poster and went ape *beep* like all the morons on Tumblr did.

Save your social justice crusade for your blog OP. The least you could do is see what the *beep* the movie is actually about before you start complaining. You'll find it's quite the opposite of what you're so offended over.

I think the whole point of this movie is to BRING UP such things like this when people objectify human beings. It is a serious matter, and I think the movie is trying to bring that mattter up in a lighthearted way. Now, I havent seen the movie so maybe I'm wrong, maybe they are offensive, but this is how I see it before watching the movie or whatsoever.

Are you kidding me? You can get fired or even censored if you say "something mean about the Gays" but if you're all for them, then it's OK for you to go on about it.
