Coming out...and acceptance

I know this film is supposed to be light, and full of characturers (stereotypes), but the ending still gets to me. Like yeah, some people come out and it's great for them, but then others get beat up by family members, kicked out, become homeless, and sink into a dark state. This film only represents one kind of coming out. The main character is an upper middle class white kid in the suburbs, with parents who don't kick him out. Not every person has that.

Any thoughts? Anyone else feel this way?
