This movie has a gaping plot hole...

...I'm sure there's other topics on this, but this plot hole is huge. The school has NO known gay students, yet... Brent was a stereotypical flaming-hot queen (I don't mean that in a derogatory term, as I'm gay myself). He was the kind of gay guy you don't even NEED to ask if they're gay. We just know from the fabulous get-go. Yet, the school was hunting and sniffing gay students down like Nazis searching for Jews?

What gives?

reply

i think they just meant no 'out' gay students. they also mention that Brent and Tanner are under the radar, so i'm assuming that meant no one in the school even noticed them and their friends.

you hang around garbage you start to stink.

reply

bloodyblackout is right. Brent and Tanner mostly kept to themselves and their very small group of friends. Also, it's obvious to us (the viewers) that Brent is gay because we're watching the movie from his inner-circle...like if we were his friends. But to someone outside that circle, who may have just met him or had a short conversation with him, his sexual orientation would not be as obvious because Brent's inhibitions would be up. How he behaves with his friends is not how he behaves with strangers. :)

reply

Well themikeyoulove, the person that created this discussion, would know better than I but I think the fact that they hung together would make it more obvious.

reply

In today's world it is no longer that obvious...

I mean all the members of Take That are straight... I would have banked on them being gay back in the 90's...

Though halfway through the film, when it was necessary for Caprice to know that Brent was gay, she suddenly did!
How come she didn't adopt him as her GBF earlier? (Answering own question-I suppose cause he wasn't out so other people wouldn't know he was a GBF, though it was the most obvious thing ever).

reply

They all knows he's gay though but because he hasn't officially announced it... he's not the sassy GBF for them.

Yeah some people are quick to call people gay when there is barely enough information to just suspect them to be gay. A group of guys keeping to themselves would sure get comments, whether it was justified or not.
