Question about the end (SPOILERS)

Was it possible that Mr. Stink was actually a spirit that simply found release? He said his wife died in a fire. Is it possible that he did too and simply couldn't live with the guilt of it until Chloe gave him purpose and "moved on" from purgatory in a cloud of clean snow mist?
