Are all locations false?

I just watched the beginning of episode 11 in season 3. And even though It clearly states 'Copenhagen Central Station' it's definitely not. It's not even filmed in Denmark as is evident from the phone booth and type of train. And I wander how many other locations in the series are fake?!

I just watched that episode too, and the first thing I thouht, before I read the text saying where we were, was that "This looks a lot like Hovedbanegården"...

I''ve been commuting for more than 3 years and it's definitely not Hovedbanegården. If you watch it again there is a white-cream building in the background. You won't find that at Hovedbanegården. Hovedbanegården is also much lagrer and our trains very different.

Ok, I have only watched the scene once, and it struck me that it looked like Hovedbanegården. Something about the red celing construction, and the "anti pidgeon" spikes, I guess, if memory serves me right. I have to watch it again. But if you commute to and from there, I believe you. But never the less, at first view, I thought of Hovedbanegården.

In an interview with Goran Visnjic, he talks about how the home-base for filming was Prague. And with such a wide variety of architectural styles and topography in the area, they were able to use Prague (and nearby) locations to stand in for many other cities/countries. But because Prague is also very central, it made it easy to travel to other cities/countries where necessary.
So I suppose the decision was made based on

1. What could be found nearby.
2. How important the setting was to the story (i.e. was it worth traveling to Denmark to shoot however much of the episode was actually set there? I haven't gotten to that episode yet, so I don't know.)

He did say that the Croatian episode was filmed in Croatia.

EDIT: Finally got to this episode. The Denmark train station scene is pretty brief. I can see why they might not have wanted to travel that far to film it when there was likely a suitable location much closer to the other filming locations.

It seem most be just central or eastern europe and if now they show scenes from say Denmark they just film in Prauge and have some signs in danish. You would like them travel around more this being an european taskforce. There have like been no case from northern europe including balticum, very little from western and most then set in central or eastern europe. Probably becouse the base then is in Prauge and the filmning in Czech Republic are known to cost less.

They do this with Toronto all the time. My brother has a friend that lives there and one morning he want to the subway and the station had all German signs on it. It was for an US agent show filmed in Toronto. When the station closed in the night, they filmed there, claiming it was a subway station in Berlin.

Season 3:
Most of the stuff flyby scene's in Holland/The Netherlands seems to be correct atleast.
Amsterdam was really amsterdam and the ICC building in The Hague looked the part.

Some other things looked like NL but something seemed a bit off. Maybe some places were made to look like it. ( they did a nice job of it )

Just watched the episode with the school children on the bus. As for the rooftop chase in Prague, you must be joking. I reckon they must have covered about fifteen miles over the rooftops, and as for running down a street and the next second on Charles Bridge please!

Thanks for all your great replies. Even though they made me feel a bit disillusioned. I guess thats just the name of the game ;-)

Hi,

I have only seen three episodes, including the one set in Croatia which appeared very convincing location-wise.

The next episode (s3 ep8) did contain a scene which was certainly shot a few hundred miles from where it was supposed to be. The interception of the coach at the motorway service station en-route from Brussels to Germany was actually filmed at Letňany bus station on the north-eastern outskirts of Prague. This is an odd location in many ways, being a gleaming glass and steel structure pretty much in the middle of open fields, and way off the main tourist trail unless (as my wife and I were in August) you are visiting the air museum at Kbely. Just as a confirmation, a red and white Prague city bus was visible in the background in one shot.

I also thought a later scene involving a helicopter was filmed on the west side of Prague city centre, as there is a landing pad at the hospital, and the hilly background seemed to fit quite well.

Only then did I spot this thread, and I would very much agree with Naomi222's comments about the advantages of filming in Prague. It is a city I have visited a few times over the last few years, as my son lived there for a while. On almost every occasion we encountered a film crew somewhere. My son also suggested another reason it may be popular: perhaps the teamsters enjoy cheap and excellent beer!

I assume you are meaning episode 9, season 3, which I've just watched and starts at a station apparently in Copenhagen?

Anyway, the filming location is Masarykovo station in central Prague, a secondary terminal used mostly by local trains, but with the very handsome glass and iron frontage seen in the background. As the street ouside is a major tram route, they must have been patient (or lucky) to avoid having a Prague tram trundle into shot and give the game away!

Whilst on the subject of trains, the idea of a passenger manifest is pretty far-fetched in Europe, even if it may be feasible on some long-distance services in the USA. I could just about believe it on what was supposed to be an international service in the episode, but it was filmed on a standard Prague suburban train of a type charmingly known as "City Elefant", which I am pretty sure don't even have numbered seats as you can't make a reservation.

The residence that Lea Jensen inhabits also has a very Central European vibe about it, rather than Scandinavian. Domestic architecture in Europe is surprisingly idiosyncratic.

At least the car chase that was supposed to be in Prague was correct!

That's pretty typical for TV and movie production. They find a location that will be "close enough" for the intended viewing audience, while being within their budget.
