Very entertaining!

Well acted, good music and screenplay. As a Chilean I think this movie represents very well the Chilean middle class which is divided in two groups: a liberal one represented by Gloria and her family and friends and the right-wing one represented by Rodolfo, his estranged wife and daughters. The former group is the more "normal" one and the latter the group with more mental issues. Both groups enjoy the good life of capitalist system though. For those who aren't Chilean please notice that this movie talks about a small privileged minority which usually live in the higher-income neighbors of Santiago.

What? There was nothing political about the movie. Well, there's that scene where the 4 friends talk, and also when they show the students marching in the streets. But that's it.

reply

My opinion has to do more with the sociological aspect of Chilean society. The movie touches some political issues indeed: The student protests that shook Chile some months ago, when Gloria is within a bar and we can listen to chants by students, then the huge demonstration by students which is actual footage.

reply

Since those protests are still happening, I think it's mostly to show the state of the city. It's not that different from filming statues or historical places.

What I disagreed was mainly with what you said about political undertones in the relationship.

Look. Gloria and her family are obviously left-wing: she smokes pot, she has no problem with having sex with strangers, etc. Rodolfo is obviously right-wing: he was a former navy officer, he feels guilty about his relationship with Gloria is spite is a divorced man, he can't stop supporting their daughters regardless they are adults, etc. These are characteristics of Chilean right-wing people which is a group with lots of mental issues. It is my opinion though.

reply

Yes, she's liberal. But he's not that conservative either. Some of the things they do are his idea. If he was the way you describe him, I doubt they would've dated in the first place, because their liberal and conservative personalities would be obvious at first sight, and they would clash in every conversation.

he can't stop supporting their daughters regardless they are adults

What does that have to do with right-wing people?

reply

They were two adults who were seeking love... at the end they relationship didn't work out for the reasons I pointed out: clash between liberal vs conservative way of life. Regarding the supporting issue it is typical behavior of right-wing and conservative people.

reply

I didn't know that. Still, I don't think "clash between liberal vs conservative way of life" is the best way to describe it. If what you're saying is true, then he only had ONE conservative trait that hurted the relationship. And it wasn't because she was liberal. They didn't clashed over opinions, because it wasn't a matter of opinion. His relationship with his daughter was kind of twisted. It's a fact, and even a conservative would've noticed that.

reply

They clashed because he as a conservative and maybe Catholic person couldn't cut the link with his former wife and his spoiled daughters. Gloria told him once "ponte los pantalones" (be a man) but he couldn't because he was grown up in a different way. Gloria's mental state was healthier: she had no trouble meeting with her estranged husband's wife, she was independent, etc. etc.

reply

>two adults who were seeking love

Yeah, love and comanionship. Instead, they got satisfactoly, hot fuxxxxx, and then *beep* up.

>Regarding the supporting issue it is typical behavior of right-wing and conservative people.

He needs to feel patriarch. With Gloria, was he merely a jerk? Couldn't he prepay the hotel bill in style? Was it a planned revenge?
