Wow, is this bad!

And the chick looks like a 3rd-rate Carrie Bradshaw and acts like a brat.

The story itself is so retrograde and offensive. The main female character is a shrill, needy harpy, obsessed with getting married. Men, run for your life!

it was original something new. cute story and super handsome man. nice retro clothes. i would watch again

reply

The guy was good, but the woman was terrible.

The retro outfits just seemed contrived to me. And why was she wearing Jackie O's famous pink outfit (complete with pillbox hat) from the day of the assassination? Really weird.

reply

And i didn't get what the obstacle was between her and the handsome dude. Why did she agree to marry the ugly loser when the hunk was right there?

I know, I'm analyzing this stupid thing way too much. This is the kind of Xmas show I love to hate...

reply

Did you miss the encounter with the (other) girlfriend? She left that encounter
convinced that the cool guy was not so interested in her, as much as in just any not-ugly female companionship - and that he was essentially less interested in her. When she seemed to develop a personal alternative (former boyfriend seems to step up, proposes) of course she will accept, with regret. Then she sees his acquiescence as a product of her longing more than of his, and decides that the cool guy might just be OK after all, and dares to speak to him directly.
All in all, fairly close to formula - but one must actually watch all of the movie to see all the elements of the formula played out.
Taken as a whole, probably better than the average Hallmark movie of its type - maybe an 8 if you are a fan of Hallmark romances.

Her acting during the scene when they are taking the buggy tour of the parade route was laughable. Otherwise, it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great either.

Would you excuse me? I cut my foot before and my shoe is filling up with blood.

I love Autumn Reeser (Emily) and have loved her in everything she does. I adore Hallmark movies and really enjoyed this movie. I would definitely watch it again.

Loved the movie and both leads!

reply

I loved it too! I wish they would make a sequel!! It's 1 of my favorite Christmas movies. Autumn Resser and Antonio Cupo have the best chemistry together, and Ali Leibert is hilarious!!

I've got it on now, but must admit that I'm not really watching. I saw the retro clothes in the promo, but figured it was a period piece, which I now know it isn't. Has there been an explanation for it? The clothes are quirky enough, but the hats are way too much.

reply

I thought it was a cute, typical Hallmark movie. The clothes were a little much. She did explain why she wore them. Her mom died when she was a baby and her dad sold the mom's clothes. She buys them hoping they will be her mom's old stuff and makes her feel closer to her mom. I think one or two outfits would have been enough though, even though I like the clothes themselves.

reply

So I watched the entire movie last night, and it was actually quite pleasant. The lead guy was charming and he helped make Emily more tolerable. I liked it.

I really enjoyed it myself. I love the holiday movies that come on hallmark each year and this one was no different. The female lead was a little annoying at times, but overall, I enjoyed the movie.

I couldn't get over the fact that there is an office that employs people with the sole job of planning and pulling off a Thanksgiving day parade. Is there really enough work to keep these people busy the other 364 days a year??

I thought that it was a cute movie. Sometimes you just need mindless fluff in your life. I like the fact that it wasn't so serious because Hallmark sometimes has a lot of serious Christmas movies. However, I had a hard time watching Antonio Cupo because they put black eyeliner on him and that's all that I could really focus on.

reply

Yeah, I take back what I said earlier. I've probably watched it twice again (it's airing at least twice a week) and it gets better with each viewing. It's cute.

There are a LOT of parades going on during the year! Especially in NYC!

This movie is pretty good. I love Autumn Reeser, and love the scene were she was singing Blondie's Heart of Glass at the karaoke restaurant.

reply

That was a GREAT scene mal0980!

reply

It sure is Val-El. She's so cute singing and performing it.

Exactly - she is not "man hungry" - an offensive term to begin with - but rather a woman who knows what direction she wants her life to go and who finally got tired of her LOSER boyfriend. I really liked this movie EXCEPT for the end where Santa takes off his beard in FRONT of the kids DURING the parade - that required too much of a stretch. Change that one scene and it's a much better film.

She wore the retro clothes because, as she stated in the scene were they were waiting for the Sr. Citizens to come and dance:
Her Mom died when she was young.
Her Dad got rid of all her clothes because he missed her so much.
So, Emily was obsessed with buying vintage clothes as a way of connecting with her deceased Mom. She felt maybe some of those clothes would actually have been clothes her Mom had worn.

Now that was one more thing about the movie I found that the writers could have explained better. Emily's Mom would not have worn clothes, as an adult, from the early 60's, but rather from at least the mid 70's through possibly the 80's. Emily should have been wearing bell bottoms, pant suits, and mini skirts...or perhaps even day glow, or candy jeans and shoes.

But I still loved he movie, plot holes and all!

Who wrote this, a 12-year-old?

one 12 year old went onto write quite a series of books, that keep on being republished.....

you should try them out, and realise that a 12 year old can write quite well...

so if you don't know what you're saying, then don't, say anything at all...

I agree with the OP. This is bad!

Who gets completely blotto and throws up on one glass of champagne?

Hallmark movies used to actually be good. They were a special event people actually wanted to watch now it is After School Special quality.

reply

I have posted before about this movie, but on second viewing, there are some more things that are plot holes/ foolish/ sub-par for a Hallmark movie, in no particular order -

1. She throws up after ONE glass of champagne. Seriously? Even lightweights don't do that.

2. The blonde co-worker has a freaking meltdown in the office because the main female lead was not proposed to.

3. She is in charge of the parade, but has time to just wander up to the top of the building to watch the parade with the little orphan kids and then come downstairs and find, perfectly arrayed down the parade route, her idiot fiance so she can dump him. It stretches credulity that no one would have a question during that time.

4. Yeah, why would she say yes to the guy who was a total loser just because the other guy she thought she liked had a girlfriend? Him being unavailable doesn't make the loser more desirable.

5. And, as I've posted elsewhere, she's in charge of the parade, but has no problem getting onto the Santa float in the middle of the route OR with the boyfriend/ Santa pulling his beard all the way down, exposing his face, while he is on the sleigh?

In short, this theme has been done many other times and in much better ways than this. There are plenty of GREAT Hallmark movies - this is not one of them.
