Worthy to be Seen

"Ragamuffin" is a film about Rich Mullins, who was born in Richmond Indiana, and went on to some level of fame as a song writer and performer, in the Contemporary Christian field before his untimely death. Rich was a drinker, a smoker, a cusser, struggled with loneliness, but he also loved God. He didn't attempt to act perfect, and looked down on those who did, when they had just as many scars as he did. His lyrics are works of art for the most part. The movie starts with his childhood and how he could never connect with his dad, who was a hard working farmer. And that haunted him for the rest of his life. This is a Christian movie, but it isn't really meant to be a message movie for non-believers. At least I did not take it as such. It is just a tale of his life, and the pain (much of it brought on by himself) that he lived through. Michael Koch really did a terrific job as the lead. I was worried that the 2+ hours of running time would be too much, but it wasn't. Go check it out. Rent it. Buy it. It deserves to be seen, by those who attend church and those who do not. This earns a solid *** out of 4 stars.
