Ending? SPOILERS

I didn't understand the ending. So it was filmed, but then there is a scene with the premiere and everyone is still alive even though heads were cut off. Was that just a fantasy as he was running? Then he says cut at the end and stops running. Any insight?

Yeah he was allucinating that part and when the director yells cut and the crew gets in the shot is just the film going full meta and breaking the fourth wall.

Cool. Wasn't sure if he was hallucinating/imagining how the premiere would go or not, but it makes sense with the tone of the film. Even with the film being silly it didn't make sense for the characters to survive their wounds.

The funny thing for me was how over the top the ending got, and they still being alive seeemed possible for a few moments.

That's exactly how I felt (and I'm sure was the director's goal).

I started wondering if this was some different reality where you could patch up a decapitation with some gauze wrapped around the neck. It didn't seem entirely impossible either, given the obviously realistic nature of the rest of the movie.

Like, the only reason the two clans agreed to a swordfight is because they knew they'd all be fine in the end.

reply

yes, he is just hallucinating.

THRILLER IS MY FOOD!

reply

Yea that part was just his fanatsay that he and his whole cast and crew reached his success.
Shion Sono loves the freedom of filmmaking, i think the main character didn't yell cut at the end.
Shion Sono did - the whole film is about how crazy he himself is for film.
