What is with Marco's whispery voice?

I hate when he talks that way and wish they didn't make him do it. Just sounds phony to me and I have never in my life heard anybody talk like that. Am I the only one who finds this distracting and just plain stupid?
I do love Marco, just not that weird whisper.

reply

I noticed that too, but I don't find it annoying really. He's a lost, brooding soul since he lost his family, namely Gus.

Now Linder's voice, that's one that annoys me. Can't understand a thing he says, always rewinding and replaying what he says ad nauseum to try to figure it out.

reply

I turn on subtitles. Only way I can watch any tv dramas any more.

reply

Same here. I wondered if it was just me.

Damian Bichir is a phenomenal actor and the reason I watch this show. Marco has a hauntingly lost world weary broken man resonance to his voice that is entirely appropriate for his character considering that his wife left him after the murder of his son in season 1. I can always understand what he is saying which I appreciate and I have never had to use closed captioning as I always have had to do for Linder or the Lieutenant. Sonya's voice is also clear as bell and you would never know that she's a German import.

reply

and you would never know that she's a German import.

Really? You wouldn't?
To me it's obvious from her accent.

reply

YES. And I feel like it's gotten worse this season. I don't remember being this irked by Marco's whisper-talking last year, and I know he did it. I am not sure why they allow him to do it -- I don't think anyone is making him. I would think that the director and sound guy would be like, "SPEAK UP WE CAN'T HEAR YOU" but apparently not.

reply

He's doing a Jack Bauer impression.

Demian Bichir was very soft-spoken as the drug kingpin/politician in Weeds, too. Maybe it has to do with the nasal quality of his voice.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.

reply

I agree with you. In his spanish native language he whispers too.

reply

It would make a great skit on Saturday Night Live or some similar show, having Jim Caviezel and Demian Bichir in character, having a dialog using their stage whisper voices. Jim speaks in a whisper too, yet he can be heard even in heavy traffic outdoors in NYC, on Person of Interest.

reply

He has a higher voice even when whispering. Bass frequencies seem to get drowned in the room.

reply

I think Demian can be understood better in English if he lowers his voice. When he speaks in Spanish, he is actually loud and clear.

Yep, I've noticed that too. Maybe he's not as confident speaking English and that's why he goes with the softer tone.

reply

I thought he was just trying to sound tired. None of the cops on the show ever seem to sleep.

reply

He has the hots for Sonya , whispery voice and bedroom eyes...😚

Along with the squinting and scowling and strutting, just part of acting like a tough cop. Irritated me, too, just a caricature.
