Have you seen the original?

For anyone who has also seen the original: are the original and remake different enough to watch both? I have seen the US version but hear so many good things about the original I might be willing to give it a go--unless it is the exact same story (I know it's the same plot, but does it play out the same with the same ending?)

PS for those people who complain Americans will only watch a remake, I'll watch anything, but when it comes to things with subtitles it requires me to HAVE to pay attention 100% of the time to read what is going on, whereas in dubbed/English language shows you can do the laundry, surf the Internet, answer the phone, etc. and still follow what is going on by listening. For people like me with A.D.D subtitles are a tough ask. Not out of the question, but I am not always able to focus enough.
