happiness=sadness?

Why at the end [SPOILER] do the witches claim that the protagonists will eventually rejoin them just because they are happy? There are plenty of other outlets for boredom than human sacrifice, devil worship, ultra-feminism, kidnapping, etc. So why should José and Eva wish to rejoin the coven even if their romance collapses?
