INAPPROPRIATE TITLE. how did this title get approved?

HOW WERE THEY ABLE TO GET AWAY WITH THE TITLE OF THIS FILM? Yea, i know its just some dumb film from some film festival. But, HOW?

i assume that while naming this film they were like:
Guy 1: the movie is about witches, lets call it Witching
Guy 2: No way, sounds too wimpy, lets be edgy and add in a swear, you know, the one that rhymes with witch?
Guy 1: You mean twitch?
Guy 2: No you buffoon, im talking about that word, the one that starts with B
Guy 1: oh YEA!!! WHY DIDNT I THINK OF THAT! LETS DO IT!
ME : But thats a swear! you cant do that
Guy 2: But it will make the film look more cool, Britney spears called herself this word and it made her more cool. So it isnt offensive anymore to women. So why not name this film like this. IF you hate the name of the film, i suggest you go watch kiddy movies

The actual title translated from the Spanish is The Witches of Zugarramurdi, Zugarramurdi is a city in Spain near the French border where witch trials took place. It was filmed in Zugarramurdi and Madrid.

LexHugo86 pretty much summed up how the English version of the title came to be. A couple of U.S. marketing boneheads thought that the original title was too serious for a comedy so the conversation in LexHugos post ensued....

'Bitching' is not a 'swear' word, you retard. Only when say it to 'God', like
God Damn You! becuase it is literally a swear, you are swearing, or promising
to damn God.

Now back to the movie title. Um, Have you actually watched this movie!??
Because if you had, you would know that the title fits the movie perfectly.
The main character has an ex wife who is bitching at him half the movie,
and then there are witches in the second half of the movie, thus the title.

people here seem to be defending this, claiming its not a swear, yet this word is a dirty word against women, and it makes them look bad. Ive seen it censored lots of times, and ive even seen people around here at imdb and the internet self censor this word. Some sites even include this word in their profanity filter.
Look at that show GCB, it had to be renamed Good Christian Belles because people complained about the original title. Look at Britney Spears song and how you see the asterisks covering the word. So now im here at Netflix and the movie title has to be shoved in my face and i doubt alot of people are gonna be okay with that. Theres even a show in discovery channel with this word now.
The only time this word is not a swear is if its used for referring to a female dog, but since it started being used as an insult against women, everything else after that makes this word a swear no matter what, and ive never even seen this word used in its original meaning anymore because of this. The fact that people are not complaining about this shows some hypocrisy

You're literally the only person that cares. "dirty word" ? haha. Isn't this movie's rating too high for you?

this word is a dirty word against women

Seriously? Who gives a sh!t? Women are most definitely NOT this movie's demographic anyway.

Congratulations, lex! You're the first English speaker (presumably) under the age of 87 with a sphincter even more uptight than the MPAA. And that's quite a claim to fame.

"Suggested MPAA Rating: Rated PG-13 for comic horror violence, some sensuality, brief nudity, and language."

And not one word about the title.

I thought the title was due to the women witching for revenge on men, and the men bitching about the ladies in their lives for the majority of the movie. I thought it was cute.

reply

It's not a swear word, it's also nothing to do with women.

Grab yourself a dictionary and take it from there.
