I'm not French, but I spend much time there every year and I'm very familiar with the Language: I thought he spoke it pretty well- especially if you tell me that he learnt it so quickly. You could hear his accent of course, but no way it was distracting or anything.
Anyway, the time you spend in a country isn't necessarily related to your pronounciation of its language: if you don't have a gift for it, practice won't change much. Ingrid Pitt has always worked in England and could never get rud of her nativeaccent. Kabir Bedi has been in Italy for like an eternity and he still speaks Italian like he arrived yesterday from Bombay airport.
