Will Samir wait?

If the wife's tear persuades Samir not to pull the plug, will he go on with his life while his wife MAY someday regain consciousness? That is, will he live with Marie, have a child with her, and give Fouad a home where he will have companionship? Or will he wait with the lonely Fouad, who is afraid to visit his mother, for what - a coma that may never end? Not that I think Marie is going to make an idyllic home, especially with the pressures of a 4th child to care for. What is the solution for those poor kids? They're the victims.

I thought Fouad was one of the finest child actors I have ever seen. American child actors are too self-conscious and can't hold a candle to the kind of performances European, Asian and Near East children can. Think of LA PROMESSE or KING OF MASKS,e.g.

By the way, is Samir also from Iran as is Ahmad and the friend who owns the cafe?

Check out a recent thread labeled "Is 'foreignness' a big theme?" Both Samir and Naima are played by French-born actors of North African heritage. As someone else has pointed out, they are never depicted talking to Ahmad in Farsi, so they may well be meant to be Arabs, just like the actors who portray them.

I hope he moves on. I guess I'm more optimistic than a lot of people on here though in that I think now everything is out in the open, they can move past it and heal their relationships with one another
