The Multicultural Seven

LOL. Just couldn't help themselves.

reply

Did Disney or JJ Abrams produce this watered-down dreck? All that's missing is a "strong" (i.e., Mary Sue) female character.

reply

It's easy to hate something when you make things up. Stop diddling kids, yo.

reply

So you think every strong female character is Mary-Sue?

Wow that term is so overused.

reply

Who I think should be in it. She is a minority so may get more looks than Denzel saying I'm the lead cast. Chris Pratt I suppose was going to help but didn't. Really this needed a hot gun girl with tight jeans and shirt.

I was OUTRAGED that there was no LGBT, no Inuit, no Polynesian, and no Australian aborigine included in the utterly racist and homophobic film! Come on, Hollywood, where's the enlightenment?? ;-)

reply

Ever since the return of the seven(1966) he series has been multicultural.

reply

Not really. It's the same racial consistency of the first, seeing as how it directly follows the exact same village.

reply

the same racial consistency of the first
So what are you whining about?

Exactly. Black - check. Hispanic - check. Asian - check. Indian - check.

And Matt Bomer's here for the gay angle.

I saw no Indians. I did however see a Native American.

It would appear then, that you are in the target audience for this drek.

Yeah because he's not stupid.

......So should everything be just white?

reply

This is a cowboy movie, yes, almost every character with a gun should be a white man. A few mexicans here and there would be realistic but not this sjw *beep* where the good guys are mixed as hell and the bad guys are all white men.

Every character with a gun should be a white man, but they shouldn't be the bad guys? So minorities who don't carry guns should be the bad guys?

reply

LOL. Just couldn't help themselves.

Why would they want to? The team is far more interesting when you bring in more varying characters. There were black cowboys, Native Americans, Asians, and Mexicans in the West.

You're talking about seven men given an impossible mission to protect a town against an army. No reason to believe that the only ones desperate enough to heed that call would be white. With any luck there will be tension between some of them before they coalesce as a team.

So let me just pop your balloon of 'strength in skin pigments' (as if that idea isn't racist in of itself).

You've got to build a house, and you've assembled an ethnically diverse crew. You've got a black man, a white man, a fat man, a thin man, a tall man, an elderly lady with a stroller, a short man, a native american, an indian, a thai ladyboy and a pedophile from kazakstan.

And they're all electricians.

How do you think the house will turn out?

I don't know what you're on about. The samurai in SEVEN SAMURAI all have different skill sets. The cowboys in THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN all had different skill sets. Looking at the cast I am certain the same will be true for this version of the story.

"I speak Spanish to God, French to women, English to men, and Japanese to my horse."

reply

Yes - SKILL SETS. Not SKIN Sets.

Bet the 'skillz' will be cliche too. Bet the Native American puts his ear to the ground for good ol cliche 'tracker skillz', eh?

reply

Yes - SKILL SETS. Not SKIN Sets.

Not everyone in the Old West was a white guy. There were plenty of blacks, Asians, and Native Americans as well. And some of them were lawmen, soldiers, and gunslingers.

"I speak Spanish to God, French to women, English to men, and Japanese to my horse."

reply

Yep, I saw Deadwood and it was perfectly done. But either you're being naive or intentionally stupid by not observing this among the wave of films that take other people's stories and jumble up the races of the cast in a way consistent with other properties undergoing the same process against a backdrop of sniveling crying SJWs demanding 'diversity'. If this was just some fluke made in 1982, that'd be one thing, but given the time of its production, it's OBVIOUSLY a 'skin' issue and not a 'skill' issue.

reply

If they make a good movie out of it, who cares?

reply

IF being the key word there

reply

Well, when you put it like that... Sure, they should've made all the characters Japanese, in order to honor the original.

reply

"Not everyone was a white guy, there were plenty of blacks, Asians, and Indians"--Could they all read smoke signals?

reply

See. This proves the programming works. This poster really believes what he's saying.

Do me a favor, since there were "plenty", go ahead an list a bunch of each, in stated professions.

"There was like Django, and Morgan Freeman. Tons of black gunslingers back then!" lmao

reply

Thanks, you are the only one who wrote something worth reading in this disgusting topic, let's just hope the film is decent or even good. If it's not, at least we still have the originals, both of them.

reply

This must be the dumbest analogy that i've ever heard or read but, hey, i'll indulge you:
Since we're talking about different SKILL sets, of course not all of the people you mentioned are electricians. They're all of a different background (i.e electrician, carpenter, glazier, lineman, landscaper, plumber etc) and so, of course, the house will turn out great, because everyone brings different skills to the table that are needed for your house building. No matter the "skin set". Because why would the color of their skin influence how they work and how the house will turn out?
Dumbest analogy ever, man.

----------
"Baird? Go out there and be a star!"

reply

So you're saying that different skin tones automatically guarantee different skills not available to other ethnicities?

reply

That's what you're taking away from my statement?

----------
"Baird? Go out there and be a star!"

reply

[deleted]

that would sound racist lol.

reply

Are they "good" electricians though?

reply

Well, that's why the Mexican wasn't invited to the group.

reply

So in your example they all are bad electricians, except one guy who was born in Mexico (who you somehow didn't "hire").

I guess your house electric job won't be the best then?

Next time hire the good electrician.

Oh, I see. So you wanted this movie to be called "the magnificent one" starring a guy born in Mexico.

That is too big of a change in the plot. You could try making this a script though.

Good luck.

reply

Wait.. what? No, the joke was the Mexican was the bad electrician. I think you read it wrong.

reply

Oh I see, haha.

Alright then if they are all good profesional electricians then your house will be fine.

And if you were to make a western movie with the characters you described, you might find some oposition since it feels a little forced, like an agenda is being pushed.

Unless the "pedo" is the villain.

Joking aside, this (The Magnificent the Seven) doesn't feel like a forced "PC" movie. There isn't something too extraordinary or unbelievable for the 1800's fiction (or at least I didn't feel like that watching the trailer).

"With any luck there will be tension between some of them before they coalesce as a team."

With any luck? That's screenwriting fodder 101! That's exactly WHAT the groans are going to be about because it WILL be tired cliche boring 'oh they're talkin bout race!' crap. In fact, that sounds like Walking Dead. Lots of boring cliche character crap leading up to one major scene that you only get to see half of, because they know there's only going to be 12 more boring 'character' episodes until they get to the next season finale whammy.

If conflict between characters isn't your thing, you can always give up on watching movies, tv, reading novels, etc. altogether. You'll have to, because it's all up in there.

Conflict defines character within a story. That's not something new either. It goes back to Aristotle's Poetics for the earliest written version. Everybody agreeing and seeing eye to eye is a boring story. That's why nobody has made it yet.

No, pretty sure you were going down on yourself with that completely irrelevant commentary on screenplay basics. Oh *beep* Conflict makes character? WHO'DA THUNK IT! What we want is INTERESTING conflict, not PC garbage thrown in under the guise of 'conflict'.

Story basics, for the poster who needs to complain about stuff he has a half understanding of. That would be you, by the way.

Now you're bringing in the 'PC' nonsense. Jesus Christ. What a shock.

Seeing as the movie is set in 19th century, it would make sense that some of the characters of different races wouldn't exactly be entirely trusting of one another, right? I mean, if you want to have the slightest bit of realism to it. Go in the other direction and you end up with presentism, which is worse.

I'm not talking about a long diatribe about race in the middle of an action movie. I'm talking about suspicion and distrust forged into friendship and loyalty to one another.

>Story basics, for the poster who needs to complain about stuff he has a half understanding of. That would be you, by the way.

Actually it wouldn't. I've actually worked on films and have a screenwriting major, so it's hysterical watching pathetic cur like yourself try to make up *beep* about me. I'm left thinking, "Is this projection? Is this guy really that retarded?" Like I said, I already know story basics. STORY BASICS doesn't have "Change the skin of all the characters!" Never saw that bit in any book.

>Now you're bringing in the 'PC' nonsense. Jesus Christ. What a shock.

"Now"? Sorry, are you Leonard Shelby? Are you going to tell me about Sammy Jenkis next? This whole TOPIC is about it. So are you truly an idiot, Mr Garner?

>Seeing as the movie is set in 19th century, it would make sense that some of the characters of different races wouldn't exactly be entirely trusting of one another, right? I mean, if you want to have the slightest bit of realism to it. Go in the other direction and you end up with presentism, which is worse.

"Realism"! Because.. you know.. a fictional story needs to be real. Right? Know what'd be realistic, if they FAIL at the end because they COULDN'T unite due to 'racisism'! That's 'realism', right?

Or how about just MAKE THE *beep* UP A NEW STORY that deals with that instead of juxtaposing it ONTO someone else's work.

>I'm not talking about a long diatribe about race in the middle of an action movie. I'm talking about suspicion and distrust forged into friendship and loyalty to one another.

Then you are, again, being an idiotic naive fool. Because what we will GET is cliche, not subtleties.

reply

Precisely a fictional story. Now stop having aneurysms and write your own movie.

reply

Already have, just holding off selling it till I find a way to secure creative rights so it doesn't get Multicultural-SJW-ized by producers.

reply

Yeah go figure in the 56 years since the original that movie would change its cast with the shifting demographic of its target audience. Who knew? I wonder if white people were upset when they made them white cowboys instead of Japanese Samurai in 1960.

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy"

reply

So, the Magnificent Seven took place in Japan? I honestly don't remember seeing Bronson or Brynner wielding samurai swords. Maybe you're thinking of Red Sun?

Oh! You were trying to be clever, but failed miserably? That's kinda.. what I thought. Now for example, I'd have no problem with them taking the Magnificent Seven story and making them, say, bugs for example, or hell make it an all black cast and make the setting 70s Harlem! But to multicultralize the existing story only serves to detract from the story itself.

reply

Yeah white 1960s steals Japanese story and makes "the seven" white guys nobody cares. 2016 Hollywood makes ONE of the seven cowboys black turns the whole MEXICAN village white and RiseUpMegalon the racist has a problem with the black guy. I dont see you posting about how they turned the town white cause that's not a problem for you. I guess there werent blacks, Asians, or Mexicans in the old west. Just because bigoted 1960s Hollywood didnt cast other races doesnt mean 2016 Hollywood has to make the same mistakes.

The new cast is One Black, One Mexican, One Asian, and Four White guys. Dont worry your white people still have more roles.

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy"

reply

You're projecting your own anti-white racism, bro bro. You forget bro the part bro bro where I bro mention that if it were made any other time, bro, it wouldn't go noticed bro, but bro bro the bro bro bro point bro is that it is being made at a time bro when every intellectual property is being racially altered bro bro, therefore bro it isnt about realism bro bro but more bro about a current demographic appeal bro. Part of a 'social justice' movement bro, so it isn't about 'innovative realism' on the behalf of the filmmakers bro, but rather an elitist demand exercising its own creative control, bro bro broseph.

And I notice how convenient it is bro for you to also ignore bro bro that the setting of the story was altered bro for the 60s retelling bro and not just white guys AS samurais bro bro.

reply

You should go deal with your racism issues. I'm white. You are so are so racist you assume I'm something else for defending a movies decision to use a diverse cast. Come out of that racism closet. Just embrace it.

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy"

reply

Yeah, I'm a racist. That's why I enjoyed working with Isaac Hayes. smh

Also.. you said to 'deal with racism issues', connotating that I'm plagued by a negative view.. and.. then you say to 'embrace' racism...?

reply

Your argument doesn't make sense. You say that race shouldn't matter, yet we have characters of different ethnicities and suddenly it matters?

Is the clash of culture/race not valid storytelling? Do you understand the significance of the cowboy archetype? The characters of the original are your old West SJWs.

reply

LOL

true

War, what is it good for?

reply

You don't get it. If it was all white guys, it would be the white guy cowboy racist stereotype. Same reason Asians can't play smart mathematicians (21) or wise old men (Doctor Strange) or super powered martial artists (The Last Airbender).

If anything, there are probably still too many white people in this. It still feels a bit too racist giving one of the white guys so many speaking lines. Chris Pratt should have been replaced with a Mexican actor.
