Elizabeth Mcgovern Performance

I enjoyed the movie immensely. However, I have to say that Elizabeth McGovern's role and performance was "awkward", as soon as she appeared on the screen. Her demeanor showed immediately that she was not a true judge, but an actress playing a judge. She sounded great with her lines, but not convincing as a judge. I loved her in Downton though. I guess, to me, she was miscast, and maybe she was the director's wife and that took away from her performance.

I also have to agree with others, that Ryan Reynolds, was miscast. He tried hard, and I appreciated his acting skills, but not a perfect match for this film.

I can't answer about Mcgovern but I definitely disagree with you about Ryan. He fit the role perfectly. Maybe you're thinking him as miscast because you've already typecast him in your mind and see him as something else. But to me he handled the role perfectly.

Maybe you're thinking of him in Deadpool or some other show, but if you put that away in your mind and focus him as the lawyer in this movie, you will see that he did an excellent job.

I see what you're saying. I think of Ryan as more of a comedian, and whey they do drama, it could be hard to break out of the typecast. He did good for the role, but I'm left wondering if someone else would be even better for the role, to really amplify the film to the Oscar-contender level, because that's where it should be, similar to the Pianist.
