Will I get really angry watching this?

I love the era the movie is set in but if there are a lot of racial remarks or someone getting their feelings hurt or worse due to the ignorance of others please tell me so I do not waste the money to rent only to turn it off a few minutes later. Thanks

Here's the thing, it is a period piece based off of real events that deal with the topics of race and class during that particular time period. Will people get their feelings hurt? Yes, but it's all part of the character development and it's not graphic in the way say 12 Years a Slave is by no means. Above all it is a love story between boy and girl as well as father and daughter and I think you'll really enjoy it.

Belle is constantly getting her feelings hurt due to the ignorance of others.

This film is set in the 18th century, you can't expect the characters to behave in a modern way about the topic of "race."

Oh, Inspector Morse! What big blue eyes you have...

People still bitch about "race" like they did in the 18th century. It's no different and it's still upsetting.

While I won't tell you to 'get over yourself' I do empathize with your feelings, and your concerns are valid. I was just as timid about revisiting the pain conjured up watching a film where slavery is an issue and human beings are degraded and mistreated unfairly and cruelly. Because I like all the same qualities that you said you liked, you will not be disappointed.

There are painful scenes, however, there are just as many triumphant and beautiful ones, or more. There are more redeeming qualities in this film than not...in that it is a refreshing change than what we all may have expected. No one gets whipped or seriously physically hurt or degraded. The discrimination is mostly subtle and fiercely protested throughout. The emotional scenes will soften you, not anger you, but they will make you feel. It is extremely well played by the actors and tastefully done by the director and writer.

Making the audience 'feel' is the objective of every director, so in that the film was successful.
