Begin -> Cliche -> Bad Acting -> Cliche -> Bad Plot -> Cliche -> The End

I was prepared to give this movie a chance. And even though the acting is horrible and the pacing / direction tedious, I was watching anyways. But after watching people from the Midwest being depicted as crazy, stupid, starstruck psychos, it occurs to me that by watching this divisive garbage, I promote and condone that viewpoint. So I had to turn it off, which was easy to do since the plot/writing/acting are all very bad. Hollywood, stop making the midwest the badguys to all your movies.

Why so arrogant anyways? For all its alleged culture and class, what does hollywood produce? Bad movies and bratty snobs? If people from Hollywood wonder why they are widely despised outside of their echo chamber, movies like this and their cliche-ridden badguys are why.

Most of the greatest innovations in American history and the history of the planet have come from 'flyover country'. Number of movies that have healed the sick, moved mountains or changed the world? 0. Hollywood = useless hotair factory full of desperate losers bleating for attention.

It wasn't the Midwest, it was the South.

reply

Indeed it was the South. Mississippi to be exact.

Sure, the Midwest catches a lot of stereotypical flack, but I'd say quite a few others are further down on the list - blacks, Southerners, Hispanics (and Mexicans in particular), Europeans, gays, Russians, Italians, inhabitants of trailers, Jews, Muslims...it's just how pop culture goes, and frankly I think it'd be pretty boring without it. Smart people don't buy into it and why would you even care what those who do buy into it think in the first place?

By the way, you *may* want to get your facts straight before ranting. And I doubt your claim about "changing the history of the planet" and "greatest innovations" coming from the Midwest. I think that's a bit grandiose.

Close but no cigar. Try Louisiana.

He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator.

reply

Yeah it was Louisiana.

I have lived all over the map. There are hicks and a-holes all over the place. I don't think this movie was sending a message saying "Any and all people who say dumb things, do dumb things or hate people from Hollywood or WORSHIP people in Hollywood are from the South" it was just an interesting setting to do so---and realistic as well. Yeah, it could have happened in Colorodo, New York, anywhere really, where some crazy psycho who is also slightly stupid wanted revenge--- but hicks in Shreveport, Louisana was entertaining and sorry, realistic. There are stereo-types for all kinds of things like you said. I totally agree with you. And I agree that the statement was gradiose haha. And to be very very honest, after living in the South---they did a very accurate representation of *those* types of people in the South. That isnt to say everyone in the South is like that at all. I feel like anyone who gets super offended by this movie has to be a redneck hick exactly like the characters in the film, otherwise you don't have a very open mind.
