Yes, the redneck rapist in 'Deliverance' was a full-blown psycho who enjoyed the rape. Junior was more hesitant, he was physically attracted to Pierce, but he wasn't a complete psycho. He felt the need to drug his victim before the sex. But actually, what he would have done, would still have been rape. And that probably somewhat justified Pierce's killing him, even though it was kind of harsh, in order to avoid being raped.
I don't see how Pierce could have staged the entire thing, though, just to conceal the fact that he'd slept with the other redneck's (Mike's) wife, just to protect his career. The wife was still around, and police would have connected them. Also, surely the police would have looked into the motive for the kidnapping, and Pierce's sleeping with Mike's wife would have eventually become public knowledge. The public being what it is, though, they probably figured that Pierce's being kidnapped and worked over made up for his sleeping around, and his career turned out better than ever. "There's no such thing as bad publicity", although Charlie Sheen & Mel Gibson might not agree with that.
Honestly, though, I can't figure out how the dancing alligator scene at the conclusion figured into it. When Pierce clicked on the e-mail at the end, and brought up that scene, it must have been an e-mail from Junior. It did make it look as though the entire thing was all just staged, from beginning to end, for the benefit of Pierce's career. But the police involvement would render that impossible. Maybe the whole thing was just a joke, and we were all being played ! Still, a pretty decent movie.
