disappointed in substance of show

I was disappointed to find that it did not really go into depth about the 'how to.' Seems more about the dog trainer than the training. It touched the surface of the problem but was not fulfilling in how it wrapped up. Seems like it's 'light' entertainment, not really about training, like the Dog Whisperer. It's not bad, the trainer's personality is nice, I can see why he was chosen, but it's not substantial enough to keep me coming back for more.

Myself.....I enjoyed it more than I thought I would and do plan to become a regular viewer.
I kinda figured a show on a major network in primetime was going to be more "show" than "substance" but with Cesar Milan on the other network if I feel the need for a 'proper' training lesson I can always switch the channel.
I found Justin totally likable and the dogs featured were wonderful. The entertaining part is the owners of course.....lol.....but I will say I did in fact learn quite a bit from last night's episode without him having to go into lengthy training techniques. Especially for "Beefy" the dog with the separation anxiety and the "womb" area with the modeling agency......it all made perfect sense and was just enough.

I agree with jetandlexi but then I admit it all depends on your expectations and even personal dog-training needs going in.

In my case, I -love- anything furry but I haven't had a dog in years. I wanted to be both entertained and learn a little bit. Oh! And have a bit of furry eye-candy. (Justin is also pleasant to look at of course.) I've heard wonderful things about Cesar Milan, but given my interests and needs his show would probably be overkill for me. I believe that TV-viewers are diverse enough to like both kinds of shows.

I -am- concerned about the ratings so far. (It's just the Sunday after the Wednesday premiere.) IMDb uses a proprietary formula for assessing individual ratings, I see. Right now, the formula appears to be taking into account the lowest ratings and ignoring the highest ones, though I doubt that's what it really does.

I hope this show survives! I really enjoyed the first episode and I'd love to watch something new and fresh all summer. In the long run, I hope that CBS gets the "viewer demographics" that they need to keep this on the air. Pity otherwise.

But at least confused dog-owners in NYC will continue to be trained by Justin, regardless!

"Seems more about the dog trainer than the training."

Maybe that's the point... . :)

It's definitely more about the way Justin interacts with the families and dogs, than any actual true training substance. For me it's just enough light entertainment to keep me coming back, but I could understand that those actually looking for dog training tips or more in-depth cases might be disappointed.

I'll be honest, when I first sat down and watched, i was thinking "who the hell is this clown?", but after seeing his personality and the way he approaches both humans and dogs, he's quite the likeable dude and seems pretty straight forward in his techniques. If anything I hope the show succeeds for his sake, or perhaps if CBS cancels he can get picked up on Animal Planet or another smaller network.

I probably wouldn't be a regular viewer when I lived on my own, but right now I'm back with my family and it's perfect entertainment on a Wednesday night in this situation.

If I had a hellacious dog, I might be disappointed.
But since my pup is an "after", it meets my entertainment needs.

I do hope, if/when this is renewed, they show follow-ups with the folks he worked with this season.
