Before this Carol board disappears -- a comparison

While reading the Desert Hearts article on Wikipedia, I saw this quote from "The Celluloid Closet" that can also be said about Carol (take "Desert Hearts" out and substitute it with "Carol"):

"Desert Hearts is a love story that recreates with perceptiveness and tenderness what it might have been like for two women of different generations and backgrounds to fall in love in the Fifties."

For those who don't know:

Desert Hearts (1985) is based on the 1964 lesbian romance novel "Desert of the Heart" by Jane Rule. Set in the late 1950s, an older academic (in Reno, Nevada, to obtain a divorce) and a younger casino worker meet and fall in love.

The wikipedians who created and built the Carol articles (main, soundtrack, accolades) did a damn good job. Among the most informative and well written on the site.

The last time I saw the Desert Hearts it was nowhere near what you find now. There was no there there. One dedicated editor turned its pathetic water into wine.
