So the kid leader works in the comm center now?

??? I know it's a TV show, but that doesn't seem likely at all.

Thanks for pointing this out. I couldn't remember who he was last season. I suppose if he showed interest in joining the Navy, they'd find some use for him aboard the James. Given the population issue depicted on the show, I don't think this is that big of a stretch.

Sure, they would let him join, but he wouldn't start in the comm center decrypting vital message traffic. But he's regular cast, so he has to do something important to get screen time.

Are you talking about Ray? He was the leader of those kids from last season & he signed up, but he's no comm guy. He's a Seaman First Class I think. Lowest of the low. If you are talking about Mason who died, he was older, but many of the military techies are very young as they know so much more about that stuff than the ones who were brought up without it

Ray is not working in the Comm, he was held hostage and I'm not sure if he's done anything else since. Right now the only ones doing Comm are Gator and Alisha

I just double-checked. Ray Diaz is definitely working in comms. S3E12 at 20:41.

Seaman first class Diaz is not assigned to the comms, SFC Diaz is grabbed as an extra body for the scutt work of decoding transmissions. The dialogue explains this.

Think he left some time during Season 2 because he wanted to join. Then there's the 6-month jump forward from Season 2 to 3. Seems like enough time for him to complete his training.
