Was J.C. MacKenzie talking about Katie Holmes?

At around 41 minutes in, was J.C. MacKenzie talking about Katie Holmes in "Mad Money" (2008)?

"I worked with an idiot on a film 3 years ago. And she is the biggest diva I've ever worked with, like a completely pampered former television star who is doing film. Thank God a more senior actor on set took her aside and said 'who the *beep* do you think you are talking to people like this?' because she was impossible!"

Or Sarah Michelle Gellar. I think this movie was filmed circa 2008/2009 since the one actor featured died in 2008. I've read that Gellar wasn't the most popular actor on set when she was on "All My Children."

You're probably right. I asked my question before I finished watching and when I saw that Stanley Kamel died in 2008, I wondered if I was totally off.

Looks like "The Return" was filmed about 3 years before 2008, so like you said, it's probably Sarah Michelle Gellar.

I came to the same conclusion...SMG with Sam Shepard telling her to cut the crap.

Everyone saying Katie Holmes have some good points. But for one thing...I don't think that she qualifies as a tv star...nothing like SMG. Her biggest claim to fame would've been TC's wife then.

Katie Holmes became a household name when "Dawson's Creek" came out, which was a major hit. So it's perfectly legit to say she was a tv star who went on to do movies afterwards. That being said, I've never heard of Holmes behaving like a pampered diva. It could be Holmes that MacKenzie was referring to, but it sounds more likely he was referring to Sarah Michelle Gellar, who if the rumors are true, wasn't exactly the most well liked cast member of "Buffy The Vampire Slayer".

I bring you Fifteen Comman--(smash)...Ten Commandments!

I've worked with Katie Holmes. She is the OPPOSITE of "diva."

On the other hand, while I haven't been on anything SMG has been, the word on the street is "unpleasant."

reply

I've seen behind the scenes footage of Katie and Joshua Jackson on S6 of Dawson's Creek and while she seemed a little self absorbed, she didn't seem like a princess that you'd yell at.

Truth be told, I had to see you one more time, even if it was from a distance.

I've got to say, this doesn't surprise me. Katie Holmes seems like the "sweet type". Just like Anne Hathaway.

Came to the same conclusion that it was Katie Holmes.

reply

I figured Katie Holmes as well. It depends on when the interview was actually filmed, but the movie was dated 2012 so the interview was probably 2011, and Mad Money came out in 2008, and Katie Holmes fits the bill. I'd like to think that it was Ted Danson who put her in her place, because he seems like a decent type of guy who wouldn't put up with that kind of disrespectful crap. Could have been Diane Keaton, though, or maybe even Stephen Root.

reply

The movie was filmed a few years ago-one of the actors in it died in 2008, as noted at the end.

reply

There were at least 16 separate interviews, and other footage that was probably filmed at other times, so it would be foolish to think that it was all filmed the same year.

We know Stanley Kamel's interview was filmed before he died in 2008, but the others could have been filmed in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, or even 2012. We just don't know for sure when each person's interview was filmed.

Look at the still in-production documentary "Cleanin' Up the Town: Remembering Ghostbusters" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1446678/), which features interviews with many people involved in the production of the Ghostbusters movies, who were interviewed at various points over the past several years.

I'd imagine that this documentary was filmed in much the same manner.

I agree this was probably filmed over a long period of time and many interviews may have been after 2008.

If you look at the Rick Worthy clip when he's talking about Star Trek, it looks like it was filmed years before his other interview because he looks younger and thinner.

I thought JC Mackenzie stated the person who chewed her out was male?

reply

Funny, I immediately wanted to try to figure out who he was talking about too and thought it had to be Katie Holmes.

reply

i think that if a woman whines about anything...even if she isn't feeling well...some a hole has to make a big deal out of it. it probably didn't even happen that way...and i found it unprofessional of him to even bring it up

reply

Very good point. No one would have said anything about Christian Bale, Mel Gibson, or other known jackholes.

Isn't it funny that the one guy said his wife describe his mood swing/withdrawal from the world as 'going to the Ramada', but have a woman be focused on her craft and she's a diva.

Who knows if she really was a diva or if he was a major a55hole 'at the Ramada', but it's rather convenient.

One thing I learned from this documentary - CSI is stable work.

reply

"No one would have said anything about Christian Bale, Mel Gibson, or other known jackholes."

Really? Plenty has been said by people who've worked with those two actors in particular (though Gibson has never been rumored to be difficult to work with, he just has repellent social views). Bale was berated publicly after his little hissy fit. Quite a few other actors have been exposed as being "difficult" to work with because they are egomaniacs.

It's not some conspiracy of the PATRIARCHY!!!!!1111111!!! that women who are difficult douchebags to work with are described as divas.

reply

The hell are you talking about? He had every right to bring it up and he did not mention the actresses' name so what was so unprofessional about it? And give it a rest with this craft crap. The actress was acting like a bitch while at work that's not professional.
And how would you know that Christian Bale or Mel Gibson were jackholes if no on ever said anything? Your arguments hold no weight.

It's nobody's business but ours.

reply

but have a woman be focused on her craft and she's a diva.

Jesus Christ you are full of yourself aren't you? "focused on her craft" where did you pick that up moron? You've supplanted someone's first hand experience with an imaginary series of events that make even more people the ass hole than in the original version, plus liars. So, idiot, if there's not enough evidence that she was being difficult to work with, how do you then conclude there is enough evidence to convict him of lying and being sexist, and not only that, but that the woman was in fact a paradigm of professionalism? You've done exactly what you criticize him for, and then taken it to another level.

You've defined yourself as the biggest ass hole.

reply

Skipped your meds again?

reply

If it were really as common as you are idiotically claiming it to be, then it wouldn't be a cheeky story to tell, it would be an everyday occurrence. Did you think of that moron, before you baselessly decided he was a sexist and a liar?

reply

I came to IMDb right after hearing J.C. tell that story and all clues do indeed point to Sarah Michelle Gellar. The best part of that story is that evidently somebody actually gave the actress a stern talking to. Do you think something like that would sink in? Doubtful. There are SO MANY stories about Gellar being a "batch" and a diva...to fans as well as other actors.

Yup...thanks for that link, RT. Good story. I checked out yer site, too. And I liked it! I go back to the 2600 days as well. Actually, I had the SEARS "Tele-Games" 2600 knockoff. Mine wasn't the Atari -- but a remarkable simulation! I remember it broke (one of the toggle-like switch things) and we took it back to SEARS. The warranty had expired LONG before that (and we had already moved on to the ColecoVision!), but they fixed it right there in the back of the store...and for no charge. That'd never happen again in a million years.

Thanks. In case you don't already know, AtariAge is a great place to talk about the Atari 2600 and other consoles. Here's a link to the AtariAge forums:

I've always heard that SMG was very pleasant to work with but was very stern on BTVS about safety on set.
And I've heard that Katie Holmes was bitchy, on Dawson's Creek, but that could have been because of how the writer/director treated her.
Busy Phillips said something to the effect of "the director told me it didn't matter if I messed up, they'd just focus on Katie" but I don't know if she was being serious.

reply

Yeah, I looked the guy up, went through the credits, and said, "Oh, it's Katie Holmes." Which made me feel sad, because I like her. But reading other people's responses here makes me think it must be SMG, especially given her reputation, which means a lot more.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.
