does anyone know what Coppola...

At the end of the movie Francis Ford Coppola gets emotional and is saying something about, "I thought they would be paddle boats" and "had I been there I don't think it would have been finished", or something to that effect. Can someone who knows what he is talking about and why he was getting emotional explain to me what he is really saying and referring too? Thanks, I'll take my answer offline.
