this is a deeply dishonest movie

first of all, all those who met with these two would like to work with Alec. On the other hand, James Toback brings nothing but a creepy, vague, pornographic bent with little evidence of talent. No one wants to work with him, much less when there is no script but just attitude and a slight intellectual arrogance.

This is a doc about the past but offering Ryan Gosling and Jessica Chastain a porno idea, seriously, what were they thinking.

And to expect financing with nothing to offer, seriously? And they did it with a straight face......i think.

I'm sorry, James Toback makes my skin crawl. He is a freaky fraud of the highest degree. He almost makes me sad.

I think you may have missed the point.

You are right on the mark. I met James Toback years ago. Like many young women…he showed me his SAG membership card and told me he's put me in his movie. He has a very deep misogynistic anger towards women. "Intellectual Arrogance' is also a perfect description. The sight of this obese clown desperately trying to act like an erudite Ivy League is indeed sad.

Why dishonest? 95% hustling and 5% film making.

There was never any film needing financing.

They did say in the movie that what they were making was neither a documentary or a movie and talked about how the 2 often blend together these days, which is completely true cause most reality shows are scripted in one way or the other

They did have a very lackluster pitch they were going around with though, maybe because they wanted to make sure they would struggle to finance, I don't know but the idea to try to get 25 million (in the beginning, later changed to 15) to make a movie that was essentially gonna be 2 people exploring sexuality in a hotelroom and alot of it improvised (as most Tobaks features seem to be) was borderline insane

And I'm sure that if Alec Baldwin and Tobak truly believed that they could make money off the movie they had enough money collectively to make the movie

BTW, was I hearing wrong when Tobak was talking to Neve Campbell casually that he said that he wanted to f~ck her?

I'm not sure if I heard that wrong, I was like "did he really just say that?"
